About This Document This compendium provides categorized information about new features, migration issues, and fallback considerations for J06.10. It also includes references and sources for migration planning. Supported Release Version Updates (RVUs) This manual supports the J06.10 RVU only. Intended Audience This compendium is written for system managers or anyone who needs to understand how migrating to J06.
J-series RVUs. The manual also includes information about where to find documentation on these devices. The NonStop Storage Overview Manual is available in NTL. Interactive Upgrade Guide The Interactive Upgrade Guide 2 is a browser-based tool that is accessed through Software Depot. This guide provides customized migration planning information and highlights new features. The guide provides information for migrating from a previous G-series, H-series, or J-series RVU to the current RVU.
1 J06.10 Overview This chapter provides an overview of the J06.10 RVU. Major New Features Table 1-1 summarizes the main changes in J06.10. For descriptions of new features, see the appropriate chapters. Table 1-1 Summary of the J06.

• • • • • • • guides can be found in the HP NonStop Technical Library (NTL) located in the Business Support Center (BSC). For an J-series overview, see Section 1 of the J06.03 Release Version Update Compendium, which includes these topics: For descriptions of NonStop BladeSystem hardware and the ServerNet SAN and how to plan and configure the site in preparation for installation of the system, see the NonStop BladeSystem Planning Guide. For changes in J-series installation, see the J06.
2 Operating System New POSIX User Thread Library for Multi-Threaded Application Programming This RVU introduces a new POSIX User Thread (PUT) Model library that enables customers to write applications with non-blocking I/O both when making library calls such as fwrite() and fread() and when making system calls such as write() and read().
3 Application Development Products New c99 Compiler Utility and Support for the c99 Standard This RVU adds support for TNS/E native applications that conform to the ISO C Standard: Programming Languages - C NCTIS ISO/IEC 9899:1999(E), (commonly called the c99 standard): • Full support is provided for programs using IEEE floating point format: Complex types and several new math functions/macros are not supported for Tandem floating point format.
Fallback Considerations Code that was recompiled with the “globalized” compiler option to use the –cross_dll_cleanup linker option does not need to be recompiled to stop using the –cross_dll_cleanup linker option. However, recompiling without using the “globalized” option might improve performance.
4 Database and Transaction Processing Products NonStop SOAP 4 • NonStop SOAP 4 supports: — SOAP 1.1 and SOAP 1.
are using the migration WSDL generated are based on the –m | -migration command line option in NonStop SOAP 4 Admin Tool, the migration of the clients would require a change of the end point reference to point to a NonStop SOAP 3 server instead of a NonStop SOAP 4 server. To facilitate an easy fallback it would be preferable to retain the NonStop SOAP 3 client applications. TMF 3.6 Enhancements TMF 3.6 supports these new features for the J06.
5 Installation and Configuration Products The J06.10 RVU contains no new features for installation and configuration products.
6 Manageability Products Backup and Restore 2 Enhancements Backup and Restore 2 (BR2) supports these new features: • • BRICONDISK job option: BR2 uses the BRICONDISK job option to retain the Backup Restore Intermediate Catalog (BRIC) and BRCMD files on the disk. The BRICONDISK job option is applicable for backup, backcopy, and parallel backup only. EXCLUDE filter: The files and directories are excluded based on the name you provide in the EXCLUDE filter.
Safeguard Enhancements Safeguard includes these enhancements: • • • • Process identity attributes are updated dynamically when the corresponding user’s audit and group attributes are modified. The disk file pattern protection records are persistent at the volume level. The Safeguard secondary audit record with text area type Object, generated when a Guardian process is created, is enhanced to include the program file name of the executable from which the process is created.
7 Hardware Products Ethernet Patch Panel for CLIM Connections HP offers Ethernet patch panel cable management products for IP and Telco CLIMs. The patch panel simplifies and organizes the cabling connections of these CLIMs to enable easier access to the CLIM customer-user interfaces and for making cabling changes when necessary. For more information, have your service provider refer to the CLuster I/O Module (CLIM) Installation and Configuration Guide. New systems are shipped with the patch panel.
8 Networking Products Expand The value of the maximum number of SUPERPATHS in a system is increased from 16 to 32. Migration Considerations None. Fallback Considerations If you fallback to prior RVUs where the maximum number of SUPERPATHs is 16, and if more than 16 Expand line-handler superpaths are started, an EMS error is displayed when the 17th superpath is started warning that the limit has exceeded and the path will not be part of the superpath. iTP WebServer 7.2 Enhancements iTP Secure WebServer 7.
— — — — START/STOP/ABORT PROCESS $ZZCIP START/STOP/ABORT CLIM/PROVIDER ADD/DELETE CLIM/PROVIDER/ROUTE SWITCH CLIM The following sensitive commands are not audited: — STOP/ABORT MON — STOP/ABORT PROCESS for CIPSAM — START/STOP/ABORT of CIPMAN/CIPMON/CIPSAM using Persistent Manager ($ZZKRN) — STATS *, RESET • To detect duplicate IPv4 addresses and MAC addresses in a subnet. When a duplicate IP or MAC Address is detected, EMS Event 5230 will be created.
A Sources for Migration Assistance and Information This appendix describes the assistance HP provides when problems arise during the migration and testing process. HP also provides services that can help you develop a migration plan and implement migration tasks. Most migration and release documentation is available through the HP NonStop Technical Library (NTL).
