1 J06.12 Overview This chapter provides an overview of the J06.12 RVU. Major New Features Table 1 summarizes the main changes in J06.12. For descriptions of new features, see the appropriate chapters. Table 1 Summary of the J06.
Table 1 Summary of the J06.12 RVU (continued) Sections and Categories Major New Features Migration Alerts Fallback Alerts Chapter 6: Manageability • “Measure” (page 15) Products Measure now handles records from various releases (even future releases) by adjusting the format of the records to match the template version used by the requesting application.
Table 1 Summary of the J06.12 RVU (continued) Sections and Categories Major New Features Migration Alerts Fallback Alerts X X • “Blade ServerNet and BladeCluster ServerNet Switches” (page 18) The Blade ServerNet and BladeCluster ServerNet switches with Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable (QSFP) transceivers are now compliant with Network Equipment-Building System (NEBS) standards. • “HP c7000 Enclosure Carrier Grade (CG) ” (page 18) The next generation c7000 CG enclosure is now available.
Table 1 Summary of the J06.12 RVU (continued) Sections and Categories Major New Features Chapter 8: Networking Products • “BladeCluster Solution Supports Additional Long Distance Options” (page 21) Migration Alerts Fallback Alerts X X The BladeCluster Solution has been enhanced to support inter-zone distances up to 65 km in a BladeCluster multi-zone topology.
2 Operating System Open System Services Shared Memory Segments Beginning with the J06.12 RVU: • Guardian processes can access shared memory segments using Open System Services functions such as shmat(), shmget(), shmdt(), and shmctl(). When a Guardian process uses one of these functions, the Guardian PIN is used in place of the Open System Services pid. • The size and number of these shared memory segments are restricted by available system resources only.
3 Application Development Products Support for Explicit Control over the Placement of Processes Within Multi-Core Processors Three new Guardian procedure calls and a new IPUCOM command interface are introduced for HP NonStop multi-core systems. This new feature allows explicit assignment of user processes to specific Instruction Processing Units (i.e. IPU “cores”) within each NonStop Operating System (NSOS) logical processor.
4 Database and Transaction Processing Products No new features in the J06.12 RVU.
5 Installation and Configuration Products No new features in the J06.12 RVU.
6 Manageability Products Measure Measure now handles records from various releases (even future releases) by adjusting the format of the records to match the template version used by the requesting application. This template-version functionality allows Measure to place records from datafiles captured from multiple systems with different releases and/or Measure versions in a single set of ZMS structured files with a common record format.
OSM Enhancements OSM Service Connection (T0682H02^ACN) adds support for: • HP Integrity NonStop NS2200 series servers, including a new Processor Type attribute value of NSE-AD and service procedures specific to NS2200 firmware update and FRU replacements. • A Media Type attribute on the SAS Disk object. • Disk partitioning on Hard Disk Drives (HDDs). • HP Insight Control Power Management (ICpm). • Enhanced BladeCluster Solution options.
7 Hardware Products Integrity NonStop BladeSystem NB54000c-cg HP introduces the Integrity NonStop BladeSystem NB54000c-cg, a modified version of the commercial Integrity NonStop BladeSystem NB54000c. The NB54000c-cg is built in accordance with the Bellcore Network Equipment-Building System (NEBS) Level 3 requirements for typical Central Offices. Migration Considerations NB50000c-cg server blades cannot coexist with NB54000c-cg server blades in the same c7000 enclosure or in the same system.
Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Partitioning Disk partitioning is now supported on (HDDs) that connect to DL380 G6 Storage CLIMs. HDD partitioning is enabled on a per-HDD basis. Disk partitioning requires the J06.12 or later J-series RVU. For more information, refer to the planning guide for your system and the SCF Reference Manual for the Storage Subsystem. Migration Considerations None. Fallback Considerations See the planning guide for your system for information about the CLIMs and storage devices.
Migration Considerations None. Fallback Considerations None. CLIM Carrier Grade (CG) Cable Management Ethernet Patch Panel The CLIM CG Cable Management Ethernet patch panel is now compliant with Network Equipment-Building System (NEBS) standards. The CLIM CG management Ethernet patch panel simplifies and organizes IP and Telco CLIM CG cable connections to allow easy access to the CLIM's customer-usable interfaces.
Several configuration restrictions apply. For more information about these restrictions, have your service provider refer to the NonStop CLuster I/O Module (CLIM) Installation and Configuration Guide. Fallback Considerations None. IB CLIM HP introduces support for the IB CLIM, an HP Proliant DL380 G6 server which provides InfiniBand and Ethernet connectivity from NonStop systems to InfiniBand (IB) and Ethernet networks, on a controlled availability basis.
8 Networking Products BladeCluster Solution Supports Additional Long Distance Options The BladeCluster Solution has been enhanced to support inter-zone distances up to 65 km in a BladeCluster multi-zone topology. When BladeCluster inter-zone distances are greater than 25 km, all the BladeSystems that are connected to this topology must be running J06.12 and later RVUs. Migration Considerations • Migration is available as a set of SPRs that implement the latest BladeCluster Solution functionality.
A Sources for Migration Assistance and Information This appendix describes the assistance HP provides when problems arise during the migration and testing process. HP also provides services that can help you develop a migration plan and implement migration tasks. Most migration and release documentation is available through the HP NonStop Technical Library (NTL).
By providing access to a data warehouse with SPR information for many different RVUs, Scout makes SPR analysis fast, easy, and accurate.
