About This Document This compendium provides categorized information about new features, migration issues, and fallback considerations for J06.14. It also includes references and sources for migration planning. Supported Release Version Updates (RVUs) This manual supports the J06.14 RVU only. Intended Audience This compendium is written for system managers or anyone who needs to understand how migrating to J06.
1 J06.14 Overview This chapter provides an overview of the J06.14 RVU. Major New Features Table 1 summarizes the main changes in J06.14. For descriptions of new features, see the appropriate chapters. Table 1 Summary of the J06.
Products Removed From the Site Update Tape (SUT) No products are removed from the SUT at J06.14. For recent product removal information, see Discontinuation Notices. Preparation, Planning, and Migration • If you are migrating from a H-series to a J-series RVU, before you begin migrating applications, contact your HP representative to analyze your applications and identify specific modules and program components that require changes for migration to an J-series RVU.
2 Operating System OSS Resource Limits and Resource Agent Servers The J06.14 RVU provides new OSS resources and increased file system limits. Features include: • Increased usage of 64-bit addressable memory for internal OSS resources • New OSS resources have been added (for example, an additional PXS area in 64-bit addressable memory) • OSS resources can be monitored via SCF, EMS events, and the Measure OSSCPU entity • File open limits per processor for most OSS resources have been doubled.

Measure data files BY CPU or BY ENTITY. With the BY TIME option, users can now also split files based on a specific time interval. For more information on the BY TIME option, see the description of the SPLIT command in the Measure Reference Manual. • The MEASFT INFO command has been enhanced to display a split history record of the data file.
If OSS Core Utilities are used in J06.14 and a fallback to a preceding release is required, you must perform one of the following actions: • The previous applications must be used. • The applications that were using the OSS Core Utilities must be modified to use utilities from the Open System Services utilities (OSSUTIL T8626). Script Languages The J06.14 RVU introduces Script Languages as a new category of supported products.
3 Application Development Products Two TSMSGIP Processes per CPU As of RVU J06.14, two instances of the TSMSGIP process exist on each CPU on 4-IPU systems, such as a NonStop BladeSystem NB54000c. By default, both instances are assigned to IPU 0. For certain workloads with high levels of inter-CPU Message System traffic, reassigning one of the instances to another IPU, using the IPUAFFINITY_SET_procedure can be beneficial.
Results are unpredictable if a program calling these new BINSEM routines is compiled on a J06.14, system and run on a system with an RVU earlier than J06.14, For more information about these new BINSEM features, see the Guardian Procedure Calls Reference Manual in the NonStop Technical Library. Migration Considerations None. Fallback Considerations The binSemStats_t structure and the BINSEM_STAT_VERSION_ and BINSEM_GETSTATS_ procedures are version sensitive.
4 Database and Transaction Processing Products SQL/MX Release 3.2 The SQL/MX Release 3.2 includes key features including: BigNum Host Variable Support for Embedded SQL Programs The external format for the SQL/MX BigNum data type is currently an ASCII character format. A new binary format for the BigNum data type values is introduced. Basic arithmetic functions, comparison functions, and a few conversion routines are provided.
Support for 64-bit applications using 64-bit driver NonStop OSS ODBC/MX now supports 64-bit applications using a 64-bit driver. Migration Considerations IMPORTANT: Before installing J06.14, see the instructions in Hotstuff HS03173. For details on how to access Hotstuff messages, see “ExpressNotice” (page 24). • Migration from the previous RVU to the next RVU (which includes these features) does not require customer changes to applications, system management scripts or procedures.
5 Installation and Configuration Products The J06.14 RVU contains no new features for installation and configuration products.
6 Manageability and Security Products TCM Enhancements Tandem Capacity Model (TCM) is a workstation-based capacity planning tool for NonStop systems that estimates future system requirements and performance from current data. TCM uses data collected by Measure on HP NonStop host systems to estimate the amount of hardware required to meet current and projected business needs.
Migration Considerations Database changes support IPv6 format addresses. A database conversion program is supplied with this release and must be run after the upgrade to assure that IP addresses of historical events are available in the reports. Fallback Considerations None. NonStop SSH As of RVU J06.
Safeguard The new attribute OWNER-LIST is added to group records to allow read, alter, and delete actions for group records for users other than the record's owner, the record's owner group manager, and SUPER ID. A new Safeguard password global configuration attribute PASSWORD-ERROR-DETAIL is added to display the detailed error message when the password specified does not meet the minimum complexity requirements.
OSM Enhancements OSM Service Connection (T0682 H02 ACZ) enhancements include: • Support for HP Integrity NonStop NS2100 servers. • A new guided procedure to make the replacement of CLIMs and CLIM Hard Drives more automated. Also, new actions on the CLIM object allow you to backup and restore the CLIM configuration. • Support for Blade Power Regulator Management for HP Integrity NonStop BladeSystems NB54000c and NB54000c-cg.
7 Hardware Products LTO 5 Tape Drive This release introduces the LTO 5 family of NonStop physical tape drives and new Media Manager Software. LTO 5 drives replace the current LTO 4 product line, and include Automatic Cartridge Loaders (ACL), Table Top Single Play Manual Load, and Library models.
Migration Considerations Applications can be migrated from other NonStop servers (for example G-series or H-series RVU-based servers) to an NS2100 server. NonStop NS2100 blade elements cannot be mixed with any other NonStop blade elements. Fallback Considerations Fallback to a prior RVU is not possible for NS2100 systems. HP Power Regulator Supported on NonStop BladeSystems As of J06.14 and later RVUs, the HP Power Regulator feature of HP Insight Control power management within HP SIM is supported.
8 Networking Products Expand Congestion Control This enhancement is implemented to address a situation where the system is transmitting data at a steady rate interleaved with very short bursts of data. This burst of data sent by Expand could exceed the gateway router bandwidth, resulting in dropped packets. This causes Expand to restart transmission of packets dropped by the gateway router leading to extra latency, which could result in acknowledgement timeout in applications.
A Sources for Migration Assistance and Information This appendix describes the assistance HP provides when problems arise during the migration and testing process. HP also provides services that can help you develop a migration plan and implement migration tasks. Most migration and release documentation is available through the HP NonStop Technical Library (NTL).
By providing access to a data warehouse with SPR information for many different RVUs, Scout makes SPR analysis fast, easy, and accurate.
