LTO 5 Tape Drive
This release introduces the LTO 5 family of NonStop physical tape drives and new Media Manager
Software. LTO 5 drives replace the current LTO 4 product line, and include Automatic Cartridge
Loaders (ACL), Table Top Single Play Manual Load, and Library models. The new Entry Level Media
Manager (ELMM) NonStop host-based software allows the LTO 5 ACL versions (M8701A and
M8702A) to be converted to Random Access Small (24 cartridge) Libraries:
• M8701A 2U ACL RM, 24 Cart
• M8702A 2U ACL TT, 24 Cart
• M8705A LTO5 HH SAS TT (Manual Load)
• M8706A LTO5, MRL50 (SL500) Library Drive
• M8707A LTO5, SL3000 (Replaced L700) Library Drive
• M8708A LTO5, SL8500 Library Drive
• HSF03 Entry Level Media Manager Software
LTO 5 drives require the J06.14 or later J-series RVU.
For more information, see these manuals:
• M8701A / M8702A ACL Tape Drive Installation and User’s Guide PN 694636-001
• M8705A Tape Drive Installation and User’s Guide PN 694638-001
• Entry Level Media Manager Installation and User’s Guide PN 694639-001
• SL500 (M852x) Tape Library Installation and User’s Guide PN 541531-010
Migration Considerations
LTO 5 Tape Drives can read from LTO 3, LTO 4, and LTO 5 Tape Cartridges. LTO 5 Tape Drives
can write to LTO 4 and LTO 5 Tape Cartridges. Care in media selection must be exercised when
moving to new LTO 5 Tape Drives.
Fallback Considerations
LTO 5 drives require the J06.14 or later J-series RVU. If you must fall back to an earlier RVU, you
cannot use LTO 5 drives.
HP Integrity NonStop NS2100 Server
As of RVU J06.14, the HP Integrity NonStop NS2100 server is supported. The NS2100 is an
AC-powered system packaged in a standard HP commercial rack, and runs the J-series RVU
software. The NS2100 system employs a boot methodology similar to that used by other currently
shipping HP Integrity NonStop servers running J-series RVUs. That is, it boots from Halted State
Services (HSS) firmware files that reside on either the NonStop System Consoles (NSCs) or two
designated CLuster I/O Modules (CLIMs) rather than from a CD-ROM drive in the blade itself (as
did the NS2000). For more information, see the NonStop NS2100 Planning Guide.
NonStop NS2100 servers support G6 CLIMs and the SAS 2.0 Storage Subsystem, including SAS
Solid State Drives (SSDs). G6 CLIMs are available in three different versions: IP CLIMs (Ethernet),
Storage CLIMs, and Telco CLIMs. Some configuration restrictions apply.
For more information, have your service provider see the CLuster I/O Module (CLIM) Installation
and Configuration Guide.
