J06.17 Software Installation and Upgrade Guide

For more information about NonStop Software Essentials 2.1.0, see the NonStop Software Essentials
Installation and Quick Start Guide.
Safeguard
Safeguard provides several enhancements for J06.15. For details, see the Safeguard Administrator’s
Manual, the Safeguard Audit Service Manual, the Safeguard Reference Manual, and the Safeguard
Management Programming Manual.
Fallback and migration considerations for new Safeguard features are described in the J06.15
Release Version Update Compendium.
SQL/MX Release 3.2.1
SQL/MX Release 3.2.1 replaces SQL/MX Release 3.2 as the default SQL/MX version on the SUT
starting with J06.15. See the SQL/MX Release 3.2.1 manuals for product details.
NOTE: Starting with SQL/MX Release 3.2, mxtool includes the fixmxcsmd option, which
supports the conversion of the SQL/MX Release 2.3.x CPU list format to the SQL/MX Release
3.2.x CPU list format in the ENVIRONMENTVALUES MXCS metadata table. If you are migrating
directly from SQL/MX Release 2.3.4 to SQL/MX Release 3.2.1, you need to perform the CPU list
format conversion by running the mxtool command with the fixmxcsmd option as described in
the SQL/MX Connectivity Service Manual for SQL/MX Release 3.2.
J06.16
This section provides information about new products and enhancements that might affect the
software installation and upgrade steps for J06.16. See the J06.16 Release Version Update
Compendium for more information about these and other J06.16 products and their associated
migration and fallback considerations.
Capacity Planning
For J06.16, TCM has been updated to support the multi-core option, SAS disk (subtype SI), SSDs,
and the multi-platform configuration of SSDs. For more information, see the Tandem Capacity
Model (TCM) Manual.
Carrier Grade Gen8 CLIMs
The carrier-grade Gen8 CLIM is first supported with the J06.16 RVU and is available in carrier-grade
IP, Storage, and Telco versions. For more information, ask your HP authorized service provider to
refer to the CLuster I/O Module (CLIM) Installation and Configuration Guide. For information about
firmware considerations for the carrier-grade Gen8 CLIM, see the NonStop Firmware Matrices
NOTE: If you have the J06.10 through J06.15 RVU installed and are not planning to migrate to
J06.16, you can implement carrier-grade Gen8 functionality and support by installing the SPR that
is required for your RVU as identified in the CLuster I/O Module (CLIM) Software Compatibility
Reference.
CLIM Authlog
For J06.16, the CLIM Authlog feature transports authentication events, which are generated when
any user attempts to login to a CLIM, from the CLIM to the NonStop host system. The events are
formatted and logged as an EMS event under the new EMS collector $ZCLA. See the Cluster I/O
Protocols (CIP) Configuration and Management Manual for procedures to retrieve the EMS messages
messages from the $ZCLA collector.
