NOTE: The information in the above table is also found under the Release Notes tab on the firmware download web page.
Minimum Supported OA Firmware Levels for NonStop BladeSystems The following table identifies the minimum supported OA firmware level for each type of NonStop BladeSystem. CAUTION: “NonStop Supported Levels for J06.04–J06.17 and H06.15–H06.28 for Firmware Not Delivered on the SUT ” (page 12) lists all of the OA firmware levels qualified for use on NonStop systems.
Supplementary Steps for Updating Firmware Components Not Delivered on the SUT This section contains extra guidance for updating non-SUT firmware components for those cases where the instructions on the download page or with the firmware itself do not work or are not complete for NonStop systems. Updating BL860c i4 Blade System Firmware 1. Click the link to the selected firmware version for BL860c i4 blade located in NonStop Supported Levels for J06.04–J06.17 and H06.15–H06.
In the HP SUM Review/Install Updates screen: • The Reboot Options button provides an option for HP SUM to automatically power down the blade in order to write the system firmware to the blade flash memory, then power up the blade to reboot using the new firmware. • If the Reboot System After Installation option is selected, the Reboot to activate is enabled. Halt the processor on the blade before you click the Install button to start the firmware update.
Updating BL860c i2 Blade System Firmware IMPORTANT: Hotstuff HS03181E requires all NB54000c and NB54000c-cg system blades to be updated with BL860c i2 blade system firmware bundle version 26.34 or later. HS03181E provides several options for updating the firmware on all the blades in an NB54000c or NB54000c-cg system. If all blades in an NB54000c or NB54000c-cg system are being updated, see HS03181E for the options and instructions.
7. To install the firmware components using the HP SUM - Graphical User Mode, follow the steps in the Installations Instructions tab. In the HP SUM Select Targets screen: • Select or add the IP address for the blade to be updated. If HP SUM has been run previously on the system, the Select Targets screen might already contain the target blade IP address. • When adding the IP address for a blade, an Associated Targets popup window appears.
If Reboot to activate is postponed, additional user actions are required to power off and power on the blade after exiting HP SUM. WARNING! During the write of the firmware to flash memory, the blue Locator UID LED on the blade front panel flashes. The Locator UID LED state is also shown on the OA web interface Device Bay Summary page, and on the iLO web interface Virtual Front Panel.
4. Verify the integrity of the downloaded file. The small (<100 Bytes) file on the firmware download page contains the MD5 checksum for the large (>100 MB) file. To verify the integrity of the large file: a. Use an MD5 utility to calculate its checksum. For more information, see the instructions for your MD5 utility. b. To display the correct checksum value for the file in the browser, click the Download button for the MD5 file. c. Compare the calculated checksum value with the correct value.
server flash memory. See the WARNING below regarding actions during the write of the firmware to flash memory. If Reboot to activate is postponed, additional user actions are required to power off and power on the server after exiting HP SUM. WARNING! The Locator UID LED is also shown on the iLO web interface Virtual Front Panel. While the Locator UID LED is flashing, do not disconnect power to the server. If the power is removed, the server flash memory might become corrupted.
3. 4. 5. 6. On the firmware download web page, click Download for the large (>40 MB) file, then save the bundle to the NonStop System Console or a PC. If you download the bundle to a PC, copy the bundle to the NonStop System Console on the dedicated LAN. Verify the integrity of the downloaded file. The small (<100 Bytes) file on the firmware download page contains the MD5 checksum for the large (>40 MB) file. To verify the integrity of the large file: a. Use an MD5 utility to calculate its checksum.
When you click the Install button to start the firmware update, HP SUM performs the following actions: a. Downloads the iLO firmware to the server. b. Causes the new iLO firmware to be written to the server flash memory. c. Reboots the iLO processor with the new iLO firmware. d. Downloads the system firmware to the server. e. (Optional) Powers off the server to enable the new system firmware to be written to the server flash memory. f. (Optional) Powers on the server to reboot with the new system firmware.
5. 6. 7. 8. Copy the .efi and .nsh files to a USB flash drive. Launch an iLO remote console window. See Replacing a FRU in a NonStop BladeSystem Server Blade for details on launching an iLO remote console window from the OSM Service Connection.
