Planning the Migration
Before you begin to migrate applications and databases, you must first plan the
migration. Proper planning includes these activities:
Carefully assess the IT domains on the current NonStop S-series system platform,
including hardware, data center, networking and communications, operating
system and middleware, applications, and database.
Use the assessment information and database growth projections to plan in detail
how you should implement these IT domains on the Integrity NonStop NS-series
system platform.
This subsection addresses these topics:
Assess the Current System’s Applications and Database Environments on
page 1-4
Plan the New System’s Applications and Database Environments on page 1-7
Assess the Current System’s Applications and Database
Environments
To plan applications and database migration, start by assessing the applications and
database environments on the current NonStop S-series system to:
Obtain important information about these environments.
Obtain performance information about the current system, including CPU loads,
disk drive usage, and applications and database performance. Optionally, consider
using Measure just before you migrate to the new system to obtain the latest data.
All this information provides a reference point for setting and achieving
performance objectives for applications and the database on the Integrity NonStop
NS-series system.
Table 1-2 describes the information you would collect and use to assess the
applications and database environments on a NonStop S-series system.
