Developing a Database Migration Strategy
Developing a Database Migration Strategy
Database migration strategy refers to your overall program for moving an SQL/MP,
SQL/MX, or Enscribe database to the Integrity NonStop NS-series system platform.
Given the complexity of databases, their many components, and various business
needs, it is possible to develop many different strategies for migration. This
subsection’s guidelines should help you select an approach that works for your
database environment and business requirements.
To develop a database migration strategy that best serves your needs, start by
examining important criteria like those described in Table 1-4
and determine their
relevance to your particular needs.

New software migration tools
New compilers
New application development and testing tools
New application build procedures
Rebuilding SRLs as DLLs
Software configuration changes

database
Will the new SQL database mirror the old database? If using HP
NonStop Remote Database Facility (RDF) to move the database, this
is required. If not, identify all expected changes, including the number
of disks and volumes and the locations of all partitions and alternate
key files on the current system and use these to plan the new system.
How is the SQL database expected to grow in the near future?
Enscribe
database
Will the new Enscribe database mirror the old database? If not, identify
all expected changes, including the number of disks and volumes and
the locations of all partitions.
How is the Enscribe database expected to grow in the near future?
Will the Enscribe files be converted to SQL tables in the foreseeable
future?
