SQL/MX Interoperability Between Systems

If you are migrating SQL/MP tables, install NonStop SQL/MP on the Integrity

NonStop NS-series system.

•

If you are migrating SQL/MX Release 2.x and your database contains SQL/MP

tables, install NonStop SQL/MP and NonStop SQL/MX on the Integrity NonStop

NS-series system.

•

If you are migrating SQL/MX Release 2.x and your database contains only

SQL/MX tables, install NonStop SQL/MX on the Integrity NonStop NS-series

system.

SQL/MX Interoperability Between Systems

Before you begin to migrate databases from NonStop S-series systems to Integrity

NonStop NS-series systems, note that some restrictions exist with respect to the

interoperability of SQL/MX installed on different systems. For detailed information

about these restrictions, see the SQL/MX Database and Application Migration Guide.

Migration by Online Database Replication

HP NonStop Remote Database Facility (RDF) and equivalent third-party disaster

recovery products are fast and reliable online tools for migrating an SQL database to a

new system.

When you use RDF to migrate your database, the file structure of the replicated

database must be identical to the primary database, including:

•

Same number and size of partitions

•

Same number of volumes

•

Identical files names. Volume names can be different, but subvolume and file

names must be identical.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Before choosing this method of migration, consider the advantages and disadvantages

of using RDF to move data as described in Table 2-1.
