NonStop NS-Series Database Migration Guide
Migrating an SQL/MP or SQL/MX Database

Steps for Moving an SQL/MX Database by
Physically Disconnecting and Reconnecting Disk
3. Reconnect the disk storage devices.
°
If the new system contains a TMF configuration: Reconnect the disk storage
devices containing the database volumes. Update the TMF configuration on
the new system by adding the migrated database volumes. TMF automatically
starts audit trails for the migrated database.
°
If the new system does not contain a TMF configuration: Make sure TMF is
stopped on the new system, then reconnect the disk storage devices
containing the database volumes, the TMF audit volumes, and the TMF
configuration. Map TMF to the correct configuration subvolume, then start
TMF.
4. For SQL/MP databases, from the Integrity NonStop NS-series system:
°
Use the SQLCI MODIFY DICTIONARY REGISTER command to register
user-defined catalogs in the new system catalog.
°
Use the VERIFY utility to verify that the SQL/MP database is in a consistent
state.
5. If necessary, change DEFINE name mappings for programs to reflect the new
location of the objects and object programs, and recompile the programs.
Steps for Moving an SQL/MX Database by Physically
Disconnecting and Reconnecting Disk Storage Devices Between
Systems Having the Same Name
These steps are based on the assumption that the NonStop S-series system and the
Integrity NonStop NS-series system have the same node name and number and,
therefore, are on the same TCP/IP network but not on the same Expand network.
1. From the Integrity NS-series system, make sure you do not run the
InstallSqlmx script, either before or after you perform this database migration
procedure.
2. Copy the $SYSTEM disk files on the NonStop S-series system to a disk volume on
another system in the Expand network.
3. Stop your database applications and stop NonStop TMF on the old system. If the
new system already contains a NonStop TMF configuration, then stop TMF on the
new system also.
4. Disconnect the disk storage devices from the NonStop S-series system and
reconnect them to the Integrity Nonstop NS-series system. For information about
Caution. Migrating a database from a NonStop S-series system to an Integrity NonStop
NS-series system is a complex endeavor. These steps provide a general overview of how to
migrate a database by physically disconnecting and reconnecting disk storage devices. For
assistance in migrating your database, consult HP migration services. For information about
these services, see Using HP Migration Services on page 1-1.
