NonStop NS-Series Database Migration Guide
Migrating an SQL/MP or SQL/MX Database

Steps for Moving an SQL/MP Database by
Physically Disconnecting and Reconnecting Disk
disk storage devices, I/O enclosures, and their interconnections on the NonStop
S-series system and Integrity NonStop NS-series system, see the hardware
installation, planning, site preparation, and supported hardware manuals for these
systems.
5. Copy these files from the $SYSTEM disk copy created in Step 2 to the $SYSTEM
disk on the NonStop Integrity NS-series system:
°
Copy the SQL/MX anchor file (MXANCHOR) to the Guardian space
$SYSTEM.ZSQLMX and assign it a security of “N----.”
°
Copy the OSS configuration files to $SYSTEM.ZXOSSMAN, where you can
reconfigure them as required.
Steps for Moving an SQL/MP Database by Physically
Disconnecting and Reconnecting Disk Storage Devices Between
Systems Having Different Names
These steps are based on the assumption that the NonStop S-series system and the
Integrity NonStop NS-series system are on the same Expand network and have
different node names and numbers.
1. Use the DISPLAY USE OF command to locate dependent objects. Identifying the
dependent objects helps to determine how the database is distributed and,
therefore, which MODIFY DICTIONARY commands need to be used.
2. Stop your database applications and stop NonStop TMF on the old system. If the
new system already contains a NonStop TMF configuration, then stop TMF on the
new system also.
3. Disconnect the disk storage devices.
°
If the new system contains a TMF configuration: Disconnect only the disk
storage devices containing the database volumes. (This strategy allows you to
move only the database volumes on the old disk drives to the new system,
then start the audit trails on the new, faster disk drives on the new system. The
result is better performance for your audit trails due to the faster disk drives,
but a slower migration.)
°
If the new system does not contain a TMF configuration: Disconnect the disk
storage devices containing the database volumes, the TMF audit volumes, and
the TMF configuration. (This strategy requires you to move all your database
volumes, TMF audit volumes, and TMF configuration on the old disk drives to
Caution. Migrating a database from a NonStop S-series system to an Integrity NonStop
NS-series system is a complex endeavor. These steps provide a general overview of how to
migrate a database by physically disconnecting and reconnecting disk storage devices. For
assistance in migrating your database, consult HP migration services. For information about
these services, see Using HP Migration Services
on page 1-1.
