Steps for Moving an SQL/MX Database Using
Backup and Restore 2
Steps for Moving an SQL/MX Database Using Backup and
Restore 2
1. Make sure that Backup and Restore 2 is installed on the NonStop S-series system
and on the Integrity NonStop NS-series system.
2. From the NonStop S-series system, determine the names of SQL/MX catalogs that
contain the SQL/MX objects you want to move.
3. From the NonStop S-series system, stop all applications that access the database
for the duration of the BACKUP operations.
4. From the NonStop S-series system, issue the BACKUP command for each
SQL/MX catalog identified in Step 2.
5. Move the magnetic tape that contains the backed up files to the Integrity NonStop
NS-series system.
6. From the Integrity NonStop NS-series system, use the RESTORE command for
each SQL/MX catalog.
7. From the Integrity NonStop NS-series system, SQL compile the applications.
Additional Sources of Information
•
For more information about using the BACKUP/RESTORE utilities to move
SQL/MP data, see the Guardian Disk and Tape Utilities Reference Manual and the
SQL/MP Installation and Management Guide.
•
For more information about using Backup and Restore 2 to move SQL/MX data,
see the Backup and Restore 2 Manual and the SQL/MX Installation and
Management Guide.
Caution. Migrating a database from a NonStop S-series system to an Integrity NonStop
NS-series system is a complex endeavor. These steps provide a general overview of how to
migrate a database using Backup and Restore 2. For assistance in migrating your database,
consult HP migration services. For information about these services, see Using HP Migration
Services on page 1-1.
Note. Backup and Restore 2 does not currently backup and restore SQL/MX GRANT security
information, owner information, SQL/MX objects including referential integrity constraints,
SPJs, triggers, or views. To reconstruct these SQL/MX objects, you must edit the OSS files
that are automatically generated for each CREATE statement the RESTORE command
executes. For more information, see the information about using the RESTORE SHOWDDL
ON option in the SQL/MX Installation and Management Guide.
