Changing the System Name of a NonStop System for H-Series RVUs

If the Power Cycle All Processors Action Fails
If the Power Cycle All Processors action fails on an NS16000 Series, NS16000CG, or NS14000
Series system with an operation is not supported” message, perform the following workaround:
NOTE: As an alternative to the following procedure, if you have physical access to the system,
you can instead power cycle the system, as described in the NonStop Operations Guide for H-Series
and J-Series RVUs (under the topics “Powering Off a System and “Powering On a System From
a No Power State”).
1. Establish two OSM Low-Level Link sessions both using the “Logon to ServerNet Switch option
one connecting to ME.GRP-100.MOD-2.SLOT-14, the other to ME.GRP-100.MOD-3.SLOT-14.
TIP: If you do not know the IP addresses, you can log on to the system through the OSM
Low-Level Link and select Network Settings from the File menu.
2. In step 3, you will perform a Hard Reset action from each Low-Level Link session. However,
for the system name change to be successful, both actions must be performed as close to the
same time as possible performing both within 20 seconds of each other is recommended.
In this step, you will prepare to perform the action from each Low-Level Link session:
From the Low-Level Link session connected to the ME in module 2, click System Discovery
and select ME.GRP-100.MOD-2.SLOT-14. Bring up the Actions dialog box and select,
but do not yet perform, the Hard Reset action.
From the Low-Level Link session connected to the ME in module 3, click System Discovery
and select ME.GRP-100.MOD-3.SLOT-14. Bring up the Actions dialog box and select,
but do not yet perform, the Hard Reset action
3. Click Perform action from the Actions dialog box of each Low-Level Link session, one
immediately after the other.
4. Both Low-Level Link sessions will be dropped as the Hard Reset actions progress. Wait for
approximately five minutes, then log on to the system through the Low-Level Link and perform
System Discovery. The processors should now be visible under Group 400. In the Processor
Status dialog box, all processors should be visible, displaying Halt Code %100212.
You can now return to the procedure, resuming with “Change the System Name in All the CLIMs
(page 9).
