Checking For and Sparing Bad Sectors on a
Nonmirrored Disk Drive With SCF
The following instructions describe how to check for and spare bad sectors on a
replacement nonmirrored disk drive CRU before restoring data to it or allowing
applications to use it.

Bad sectors are listed under Logical Sector Address. If no bad sectors are
found, skip the remaining steps on this page.
2 If the disk has bad sectors, you must spare them using the CONTROL, DISK
SPARE command:
->CONTROL $DATA17-P, SPARE %H795C
Caution: It is recommended that you all processing on the volume be
stopped before issuing the CONTROL DISK, SPARE command.
3 Use the INFO DISK, BAD command again to verify that no new bad sectors
have been introduced. (Repeat Step 1).
