MSEB PICs are Class-3 CRUs and should be replaced only by personnel trained
by HP.

Replace PICs one at a time. Replacing more than one without verifying its
operation might cause connectivity problems, processor halts, or a system
outage.
● 
MSEB Description and Supported PIC Configurations
The (6750M) modular ServerNet expansion board (MSEB) can hold up to six plug-in
cards (PICs). Each PIC contains a ServerNet addressable controller (SAC). The
ServerNet 6 (top) location is reserved for the node-numbering agent (NNA) PIC. Any of
the other PICs (ECL, serial-copper, SMF, or MMF) can be installed in the ServerNet 1
through ServerNet 5 (lower five) locations. There are no restrictions on the PIC
combinations that can be installed in ServerNet 1 through ServerNet 5. See MSEB

Preparing to Install or Remove a PIC 1 You need the following tools: ● Electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection kit ● #8 and #10 Torx screwdrivers ● Labels or removable sticky notes (to label the ServerNet cables) ● Flashlight (to check the backplane connectors for bent or broken pins) 2 If you are installing a PIC, unpack and inspect the PIC you will install. Examine the connectors and pins in the connectors. If any damage is found, obtain a good PIC before continuing.

5 Using your fingers, remove the plastic nut that secures the center rear of the PIC. 6 Grasp both sides of the PIC near its connector. The connector is near the rear of the PIC (the end farthest from the faceplate) on all PICs except the NNA PIC, where the connector is near the middle of the PIC. See MSEB PICs, Filler Panel, and Mounting Hardware. Lift the PIC to unseat the connector. Carefully disengage the connector from the common base board (CBB) and remove the PIC.

Secure the PIC to the MSEB. ● Using a #10 Torx screwdriver, install a 20mm T-10 Torx screw to secure the front corner of the PIC and tighten the screw. ● Using your fingers, install the plastic nut on the threaded stud at the center rear of the PIC. Tighten the nut until it is finger tight. 5 From the rear of the MSEB, slide the cover panel into place. Install the seven T-8 Torx screws that secure the cover panel to the MSEB.

ESD Guidelines Figure: Working in an ESD-Protected Environment Observe the following electrostatic discharge (ESD) guidelines whenever servicing electronic components: ● Obtain an ESD protection kit and follow the directions that come with the kit. You can purchase an ESD kit from HP (T99247-A00) or from a local electronics store. Ensure that your ESD wriststrap has a built-in series resistor and that the kit includes an antistatic table mat.

Standard Operating Practices Caution. Replace only one CRU or FRU at a time. Attempting to replace more than one hardware component at a time might cause serious system outages, processor halts, and connectivity problems. Whenever you replace a CRU or a FRU, use the following standard operating practices to minimize any potential damage to the equipment: ● Complete HP training courses on system support for NonStop S-series servers.

For example, if your computer room has an ambient room temperature of 25°C (77°F) and is at an altitude of 1,524 meters (5,000 feet), you have approximately 38 minutes to replace or reinstall the second fan before components inside a system enclosure overheat.
