ServerNet/DA Troubleshooting Overview
Possible Sources of Problems
Components that can be the source of a ServerNet/DA problem:
ServerNet connections ●
Common base board (CBB) ●
Plug-in card (PIC) ●
Fiber-optic cable connecting a PIC to an external disk module ●
Back-end board (BEB) in the external disk module ●
External disk drives ●
External tape drives ●
Possible Alarms
ServerNet/DA problems can cause the following alarms in a running system:
Operational code download alarms on the PIC ●
Disk alarms for external disks attached to the PIC ●
During a power-on operation, CRU INIT failure alarms on the ServerNet/DA or POST
failure alarms on the PIC
●
You can view these alarms using OSM or TSM.
Diagnostic Tools
The tests provided in the OSM Service Connection and TSM Service Application include:
Test Test Function
Test Verify (for a ServerNet
adapter)
Online test; runs basic tests; checks
communications within the adapter.
Test Verify (for a SAC) Online test; runs basic tests; verifies that the SAC
is connected and has successfully downloaded
operational firmware.
Responsive Test (for a SAC) Online test; verifies that a SAC is responding to
communications.
Test Extended (TSM only)
Offline test for a failing fiber SAC. This is a
destructive test and should be used only on a
SAC that is offline.
