Troubleshooting the SLSA Subsystem

Updating the Firmware on a SLSA Adapter
The firmware for Ethernet 4 ServerNet adapters (E4SAs), Token-Ring ServerNet adapters
(TRSAs), Fast Ethernet ServerNet adapters (FESAs), Common Communication ServerNet
adapters (CCSAs), Gigabit Ethernet ServerNet adapters (GESAs), ATM ServerNet
adapters (ATM3SAs), and MIOE adapters (on MFIOBs) is contained in 510 disk files that
reside in the $SYSTEM.SYSnn subvolume on the NonStop S-series server. Firmware is
downloaded to the ServerNet addressable controllers (SACs) on the adapter when the
SACs are started.
You might need to update the firmware in a SAC when you upgrade your NonStop Kernel
operating system. You can initiate a firmware update by stopping and starting the SAC (if
the AUTOFIRMUP ON attribute is specified) or by using the OSM Service Connection or
the TSM Service Application.
Note: The AUTOFIRMUP option does not apply to the multifunction I/O board/Ethernet
adapter (MFIOB/E).
Updating the Firmware By Starting and Stopping the SAC
If you specified the AUTOFIRMUP ON attribute for the SAC (either when you configured
the adapter or altered the SAC), the firmware is downloaded automatically when the SAC is
started if the version of the firmware file specified by the FIRMWAREFILENAME attribute is
newer than the firmware version in the SAC.
You an alter the file specified by the FIRMWAREFILENAME attribute for a ServerNet
addressable controller (SAC) using the SCF ALTER SAC command (there is no SCF
ALTER ADAPTER command).
To update the firmware by stopping and stopping a SAC, do the following:
1 Abort the SAC and its subordinate PIFs.
Use the SCF ABORT SAC command with the SUB ALL option:
ABORT SAC $ZZLAN.<adapter>.<sac>, SUB ALL
