Troubleshooting the SWAN Concentrator and WAN Subsystem
Preparing a SWAN CLIP for the Test Verify Test
Action or Firmware Update
The Test Verify test and firmware update actions in OSM or TSM require that you stop the
ServerNet wide area network (SWAN) concentrator's communications line interface
processor (CLIP) and any active communications lines using the CLIP. This page explains
how to prepare a CLIP before executing the Test Verify test action or Firmware Update and
how to resume CLIP operation after the test action or update has been performed.
For SWAN 2 CLIPs, HP recommends that you update the firmware using the SWAN Fast
Firmware Update guided procedure in TSM, or by selecting multiple CLIPs and using the
Firmware Update multi-resource action in OSM. See How OSM Replaces TSM and the
Guided Procedures for more information about this guided procedure.
Preparing a CLIP
Perform the following steps to prepare a CLIP for the Test Verify test action or Firmware
Update:
1 Quiesce active customer applications that use the WAN lines on the CLIP.
2
Note: This step is optional. Most communications lines are suspended when the
CLIP is stopped and are automatically resumed when the CLIP is restarted. You
should be aware that numerous Event Message Service (EMS) events will be
generated if communications lines are not stopped before the CLIP is stopped.
Stop or abort active communications lines that use the WAN lines on the CLIP.
For example:
-> ABORT LINE $LINE1
If you do not know the names of the communications lines that are configured for the
CLIP, use the SCF STATUS ADAPTER command with the SUB ALL option to
identify them:
STATUS ADAPTER $ZZWAN.#<adapter-name>, SUB ALL
The example shows the output of this command and explains how to interpret it.
3 Stop the SERVER object for the CLIP.
Use the SCF ABORT SERVER command:
ABORT SERVER $ZZWAN.<adapter>.<clip-num>
