Troubleshooting the SWAN Concentrator and WAN Subsystem
Verifying the SWAN Concentrator Hardware
You can use the OSM Service Connection or the TSM Service Application to test the
ServerNet wide area network (SWAN) concentrator hardware.
The OSM Service Connection and the TSM Service Application provide the following test
actions for a SWAN communications line interface processor (CLIP):
Test Primary Path Access, which tests two-way access to the primary path to a
selected CLIP.
●
Test Backup Path Access, which tests two-way access to the backup path to a
selected CLIP. Use this test action if you suspect a problem with the backup path to
the CLIP.
●
Test Full Path Access, which tests two-way access to a selected CLIP using both
the primary and backup paths. This test action is the equivalent to executing both the
Test Primary Path Access and Test Backup Path Access test actions.
●
Test Basic Online, which runs an online test to determine if a selected CLIP is
functional and tests two-way access to both the primary and backup paths to a
selected CLIP. This test action is the equivalent to the Test Full Path Access test
action, but it also tests the hardware registers.
●
Test Verify, which executes the power-on self-test (POST) for a selected CLIP.
Observe the activity of the LEDs on the SWAN concentrator's front panel while the
POST is executing. Information about how to interpret the SWAN concentrator's LEDs
is provided in the Understanding the SWAN Concentrator LEDs. You must stop the
CLIP you are testing and shut down any active communications lines using the CLIP
before you can execute the Test Verify test action. For more information, see
Preparing a CLIP for the Test Verify Test Action or Firmware Update.
●
Tip: Use the following the guidelines when diagnosing a SWAN concentrator
hardware problem:
If you suspect a problem with the primary path to a CLIP, execute the Test Primary
Path test action. If you suspect a problem with the backup path to a CLIP, execute the
Test Backup Path test action.
●
If you suspect a problem with both paths to CLIP, or if you do not know which path
might have a problem, execute the Test Full Path Access test action to test both the
primary and backup paths to the CLIP.
●
If the Test Full Path Access test action fails, execute the Test Basic Online test
action. The Test Basic Online test action tests the hardware registers in addition to
primary and backup path access.
●
If the Test Basic Online test action fails, execute the Test Verify test action.●
