Cables
Connecting components in an HP Fabric Clustering System is achieved by using cables designed for the
fabric.
Software
The HP Fabric Clustering System suite provides a set of upper-layer protocols including IPoIB and MPI, plus
firmware on HP Fabric Clustering System adapters and switches. The IPoIB driver allows the IP applications
to utilize the HP Fabric Clustering System fabric, and is configured like a normal Ethernet interface. At boot
up, IPoIB Interfaces are automatically added to the network configuration, and correspond to the HCA ports.
The MPI driver is supported as a standard implementation on HP Integrity systems only, and available as a
separate product from HP.
HP Fabric Clustering System Advantages
HP Fabric Clustering System addresses four problems:
Application to application latency.
Application CPU consumption.
Network bandwidth.
Fabric Management.
HP Fabric Clustering System Capabilities
HP Fabric Clustering System implements InfiniBand which is a standard-based interconnect that enables:
High-bandwidth, 10 Gbps connectivity
Extremely low-latency Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA)
