1 HBA features This chapter describes the features of the FC2143 (part number AD167A) and FC2243 (part number AD168A) HBAs: • • • • Performance specifications, page 9 Environmental specifications, page 10 Physical specifications, page 11 Media specifications, page 12 Performance specifications The single-channel FC2143 HBA and the dual-channel FC2243 HBA are 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel PCI-X 2.0 HBAs. The HBAs’ Fibre Channel controller incorporates a native PCI-X 2.
Environmental specifications Table 2 lists the HBA environmental specifications.
Physical specifications Table 3 lists the HBA physical specifications. Table 3 Physical specifications Component Range Media interface The controller connects to the physical media through an FC-0 Media Interface, and then connects through a single (FC2143 HBA) or dual (FC2243 HBA) optical fiber LC connector. Physical dimensions Low-profile MD2 form factor, 6.600 inches by 2.536 inches, and accommodates both the full-height and low-profile bracket.
Media specifications Use multimode fiber optic cable (with short-wave lasers) that complies with the specifications listed in Table 4. Table 4 Media specifications Fiber optic cable Maximum length Minimum length Connector 62.5/125 μm (multimode) 200 MHz bandwidth cable 300 meters at 1.0625 Gb/s 150 meters at 2.125 Gb/s 70 meters at 4.25 Gb/s .5 meters LC 50/125 μm (multimode) 500 MHz bandwidth cable 500 meters at 1.0625 Gb/s 300 meters at 2.125 Gb/s 150 meters at 4.25 Gb/s .
2 Installing the HBAs This chapter describes how to install the FC2143 and FC2243 HBAs. • Prerequisites, page 13 • Recording reference numbers, page 13 • Installing the HBA, page 14 See your server documentation for additional installation instructions. WARNING! Disconnect the host from the power source before installing the HBA. To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the internal server or workstation components to cool before touching.
Installing the HBA To install the HBA: 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Open and remove the computer cover. 3. Wearing an anti-static wrist strap, remove the blank panel from an empty PCI-X slot. NOTE: The HBA comes with a standard PCI bracket installed. In addition, HP provides a low-profile mounting bracket in the box with the HBA. This low-profile bracket is shorter than the standard bracket: approximately 7.9 cm (3.11 in.) compared to 12.06 cm (4.75 in.) long. 4.
8. Attach media: a. Connect one end of the fiber optic cable to the LC connector on the HBA. b. Connect the other end of the cable to the Fibre Channel device. NOTE: The HBAs do not allow normal data transmission on an optical link unless the link is connected to a similar or compatible laser product; that is, both products are mulitmode. 9. Turn on the computer and observe the power-on self-test (POST) LED results (see "POST LED states" on page 21). FC2143 and FC2243 4Gb PCI-X 2.
Installing the HBAs
3 Installing the Windows drivers This chapter describes how to install the Windows SCSIPORT miniport driver and Storport miniport driver. • Prerequisites, page 17 • Installing the Windows drivers using the HP Smart Component kit, page 17 Prerequisites Before you install the Windows drivers: • Go to the HP web site http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/saninfrastructure/hba.html and obtain the HP Smart Component with the latest drivers and release notes.
2. Install the driver: a. Double–click cp00xxxx.exe to open the Smart Component. b. Click Install. c. Click Reboot to complete the installation. NOTE: HP recommends that you install the driver automatically by using Install rather than Extract. Using Extract saves the files to disk, enabling you to manually load the driver at another time.
4 Installing the Linux driver This chapter describes how to install the Linux lpfc driver for the FC2143 and FC2243 HBAs on already installed Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) system or a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SUSE SLES) system. • Prerequisites, page 19 • Installing the Linux driver, page 19 Prerequisites Before you install the driver: • Access the HP web site: http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/saninfrastructure.html and obtain the latest RPM, driver. and release notes.
2. Install the driver: a. Copy the .tar.gz file to the servers on which you will deploy the updated driver. b. Enter the following command: tar zxvf hp-lpfc-yyyy-mm-dd.tar.gz Entering this command extracts the files in the driver kit and copies them to the hp-lpfc directory. c. Change directory to the hp-lpfc directory. d. Enter the following command: /.INSTALL 3. Reload the driver or reboot the system.
5 Troubleshooting This chapter provides troubleshooting information that you can use in the event of an HBA problem. • • • • • POST LED states, page 21 Using the Event Viewer, page 22 Windows miniport driver event log codes, page 23 Linux driver events, page 23 Setting the jumpers, page 23 POST LED states Table 5 describes the POST LED states. Figure 2 shows the position of POST LED indicators on the FC2143 and FC2243 HBAs. Figure 2 LED location If the LEDs indicate a failure during POST: 1.
3. Check the POST LED states listed in Table 5 to determine the HBA status.
Windows miniport driver event log codes The miniport drivers record error events in the event log. The SCSIPORT and Storport miniport drivers each have documentation that describes the event log format and how to interpret the information in the log. Use the documentation specific to each driver. Do not attempt to decode Storport miniport event log entries using the SCSIPORT miniport documentation, or to decode SCSIPORT event log entries using the Storport miniport documentation.
Figure 3 shows the jumper settings.
A Regulatory compliance and safety Laser device All HP systems equipped with a laser device comply with safety standards, including International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 825. With specific regard to the laser, the equipment complies with laser product performance standards set by government agencies as a Class1 laser product. The product does not emit hazardous light.
Laser product label The optional label in Figure 4 or equivalent may be located on the surface of the HP-supplied laser device. Figure 4 Class 1 laser product label International notices and statements Canadian notice (avis Canadien) This Class A digital apparatus meets all requirements of the Canadian Interference-Causing Equipment Regulations. Cet appareil numérique de la classe A respecte toutes les exigences du Règlement sur le matériel brouilleur du Canada.
BSMI notice Figure 5 BSMI notice Japanese notice Figure 6 Japanese notice Korean notice Figure 7 Korean notice Electrostatic discharge To prevent damage to the system, be aware of the precautions you need to follow when setting up the system or handling parts. A discharge of static electricity from a finger or other conductor may damage system boards or other static-sensitive devices. This type of damage may reduce the life expectancy of the device. FC2143 and FC2243 4Gb PCI-X 2.
To prevent electrostatic damage, observe the following precautions: • • • • • Avoid hand contact by transporting and storing products in static-safe containers. Keep static-sensitive parts in their containers until they arrive at static-free workstations. Place parts on a grounded surface before removing them from their containers. Avoid touching pins, leads, or circuitry. Always be properly grounded when touching a static-sensitive component or assembly (see "Grounding methods" on page 28).
