FC2143 and FC2243 4Gb PCI-X 2.0 Host Bus Adapters for Linux and Windows Installation Guide

Windows miniport driver event log codes
The minipor t drivers record error events in the event lo g. The SCSIPORT and Storport minipo rt drivers
each have documentation that describes the event log format and how to interpret the information in the
log. Use the documentation specic to each driver. Do not attempt to deco d e Storport miniport event
log entries
using the SCSIPORT minipor t documentation, or to decode SCSIPORT event log entries using
the
Storport miniport documentation.
Obtain the relevant documentation from the Smart Component kit you used to install the driver:
1. Click the S
mart Component executable.
2. Click EXTRACT.
3. In the po p-up window, select a folder for extracting the les, and then click OK.
4. Review event log information:
•For the S
CSIPORT miniport driver, see readme.txt.
For the Storport miniport driver, see ELXSTOR Error Log Codes.doc.
Linux driver events
If the lpfc driver detects any fabric or Linux driver events, the information is written to the
/var/log/messages
le. Check this le periodically to review fabric or driver events.
Setting the jumpers
Each H BA has two six-post jumper blocks, one for each port, that control the HBA’s device ID. You select
the
ID b
y
installing a jumper between posts 1 and 2, 3 and 4, or 5 and 6. If no jumper is installed, the
defaul
t
device ID is 1AE5. Por t 0 is the top transceiver, and por t 1 is the bottom transceiver.
NOTE:
Some custom applications use PCI device ID jumpers. Do not change the jumper settings for a standard
installation.
CAUTION:
HBAs contain electronic components that can be damaged by static electricity through an
electrostatic discharge (ESD) event. To prevent ESD dam age, follow the instructions in "Electrostatic
discharge" on page 27. Handle the card carefully at all times, preferably by the edges. Avoid touching
electronic components and keep the card in the original packaging until you are ready for installation.
Table 6 shows the jumper settings for Por t 0 and Port 1.

*Without a jumper, the HBA reports a PCI device ID of 1AE5. Most software drivers require a PCI device
ID of
FD00 to properly identif y and control the HBA. Do not attempt to operate the HBA with the PCI
device ID set to 1AE5 unless recommended by the driver installation instructions.
