Troubleshooting Common Issues Read this section completely before installing or running Windows Server 2008 SP2 on HP Integrity servers. This section includes workarounds that can save you valuable time and effort. Event Log Corrected hardware errors Issue You might receive Windows Event Log messages describing Corrected Hardware Errors for memory and processor components.
Workaround Use "Maintain Firmware" to flash the QLogic controller to the latest firmware. After rebooting the system, EBSU detects and configures the disk drives attached to the QLogic controller. Fibre Channel Event ID 129 messages with QLogic 8 GB HBAs Issue On HP Integrity systems with QLogic 8 GB HBAs (451871-B21, AH400A, and AH401A) using version 9.1.8.17 of the driver, excessive Event ID 129 messages could result in slow system performance or a system crash.
4. 5. 6. 7. Boot to the EFI Shell. Run the ASPM/MSI-X Vector Update utility (set_msi_vect.nsh). When prompted, select Option #1 (“Load preload table with 32 MSI-x vectors + ASPM fix”). Boot the system. Install Microsoft Quick Fix Engineering update QFE 957018. For more information, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 957018, available at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957018/en-us. You can also find this update on your HP Smart Update media.
Servers All Integrity Workaround The controllers start up normally and function properly after rebooting the system. Target LUN and boot controller WWN not visible in a VC environment Issue When installing to storage attached to an Emulex LPe1105 mezzanine controller (403621-B21) in a Virtual Connect (VC) environment through a Brocade switch, the target LUN is not visible and the WWN for the boot controller is not visible in the zone in the switch administrative tool.
Servers rx7640, rx8640, Superdome SX2000 Workaround None. You can ignore the PCI slot numbers in Windows Device Manager that are not in the system for these embedded devices. IPMI SEL Events Event ID 121 during upgrade to Integrity Support Pack 7.1 Issue During an upgrade of Integrity Support Pack 7.0 to Integrity Support Pack 7.
System Registry System will not boot when system hive limit is reached Issue The Windows Server 2008 Itanium Edition operating system has a system hive limit of 32 MB (for all Service Packs). For most customer configurations, this limit is unlikely to be reached.
2 Installing Windows Server 2008 SP2 This chapter provides an overview of the Windows Server 2008 SP2 installation on HP Integrity servers using the HP Smart Setup CD and your licensed copy of Windows Server 2008 SP2. It is intended for system administrators with experience performing Windows installations. A more detailed description of the installation process is in the Windows Server 2008 SP2 on Integrity Servers Installation Guide located on the HP Smart Setup CD.
2. If you choose to install from a GUI console you are prompted to specify server settings when the Windows setup is complete. Reinstallation Tasks If your HP Integrity server was purchased with a factory-installed operating system, HP provides an HP Reinstallation CD, which allows you to restore the server to its factory condition if necessary. Use this CD to perform the reinstallation.
• Default MP/iLO settings for cell-based and entry-level servers For cell-based servers, the MP is assigned a static IP address at the factory before it ships. It is not assigned a DNS name and it is not DHCP enabled. If you are performing a headless server installation, you can connect to the MP over a LAN (instead of using a serial cable) by using this static IP for initial configuration of the MP. The default IP address of a cell-based server’s MP is 192.168.1.1.
3 Product Support This chapter points you to documentation to help you work with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 SP2 on HP Integrity servers and to obtain the system firmware, drivers, and utilities applicable to Windows Server 2008 SP2. Technical Documentation Technical documentation for HP Integrity servers running Windows Server 2008 SP2 includes the following manuals in English and Japanese.
