Introduction to Collect
The previously released HP Insight Inventory Collector (also known as Collect) has been incorporated into
the inventory tool. This tool uses Insight Management Agents to obtain HP specific hardware information
from SMS client servers and adds this information to the SMS database of the site server.
The system inventory information that Collect obtains displays in the SMS Resource Explorer for the client
server.
The HP Insight Inventory Collector program is installed as part of the inventory tool but is not advertised by
default. You must manually advertise Collect following normal SMS procedures.
Collect runs on each specified client, creating a series of intermediate .MIF text files that contain inventory
information about specific client servers. The SMS hardware inventory agent processes these files and
outputs a single .MIF file to the site server to update the appropriate database.
NOTE: Inventory information generated by Collect is retrieved by the SMS agent during hardware
inventory. This information is not available until the next SMS hardware inventory scan completes.
The Collect Utility is supported through HP ProLiant Support Pack 7.4. The Resource Explorer's view of
certain hardware information retrieved by the Collect Utility may contain incorrect values or missing
information with HP ProLiant Support Packs released after 7.4 installed on HP ProLiant servers.

.MIF files
The .MIF files generated by the HP Insight Inventory Collector program are updated to the SMS database
through Hardware Inventory cycle.
Enable the Collect NOIDMIF files option in the Hardware Inventory Client Agent Properties to ensure
that .MIF files will be collected.
Collect command line options
Collect is a command line utility that enables you to specify options for obtaining HP specific hardware
information from SMS clients. These options enable you to specify the following settings:
• The names of the .MIF files to be created by the client
