READ ME FIRST Before Installing Processors

Before installing additional processors into your HP Server, please read and follow the

procedures in this ReadMe.

Because this updated procedure includes steps not yet incorporated into your hard copy Installation Guide

and the Operation and Maintenance Guide.pdf file that was included on the hp Server Documentation

CD-ROM, it is imperative to read and follow this procedure to install additional processors. See “Installing a

Processor on the Extender Board” on page 2.

Installing a Processor on the Extender Board To install a processor on the extender board, perform the following steps: Prior to installing a processor into your system, read the following instructions carefully and refer to Figure 3, Installing Processor on Extender Board, for a complete understanding of this process. Step 1. Ensure that the cam on the processor socket lock is in the unlocked, counterclockwise position. Step 2.

Lock the assembly to the socket by rotating the cam on the socket 180 degrees clockwise, using a 2.5 mm driver (Allen wrench). CAUTION When rotating the locking cam, hold the palm of your hand on top of the assembly and exert light pressure.

Do not overtighten the 2 thumbscrews—they may shear off if overtightened. Tightening the thumbscrews by 1/4 turn will tighten them sufficiently.
