Description These release notes describe Version 11.5 software for the HP StoreVirtual Storage product, which contains the following components: • LeftHand OS Software Version 11.5.00.0669 • HP StoreVirtual Centralized Management Console Version 11.5.00.0664 • HP StoreVirtual LeftHand OS Command Line Interface (CLI) Version 11.5.0.433 • HP StoreVirtual VSA for VMware vSphere® and HP StoreVirtual VSA for Microsoft Hyper-V software Version 11.5.00.
• HP P4300 G2 • HP P4000 VSA Update recommendation HP recommends that all customers running an earlier version of HP StoreVirtual Storage software upgrade to HP StoreVirtual Storage Version 11.5. As a best practice, HP recommends upgrading StoreVirtual Storage software during times of non-peak activity to minimize any potential application impact. Supersedes information HP StoreVirtual Storage Version 11.
• • HP StoreVirtual Application Aware Snapshot Manager updates: ◦ Authentication Console updated ◦ Login settings wizard and controlling IP address wizard added Improved performance when executing CLI commands in large management groups Fixes Version 11.5 • In a management group with storage systems running mixed versions of LeftHand OS, there was a problem where logging in with Active Directory user credentials would work on some storage systems but not on the others.
• When upgrading from Version 8.5 to 10.5 using the 11.x CMC, a benign error message is no longer displayed. Previously, the error message did not prevent the upgrade from completing successfully, but it could not be removed while the upgrade was in progress. • When adding a new disk to the StoreVirtual VSA using the VMware® vCenter™ hot add feature, that disk now appears in the CMC without having to log out and log in again.
• In a scenario in which a volume had an alarm status (such as Unprotected or Error) and multiple email recipients were configured for a Warning severity notification, those recipients would receive a volume status report every 10 minutes. This report was sent even though there was no change in the volume status and would continue to be sent until the volume status returned to Normal. LeftHand OS 11.0 will only send a volume status report notification if there is a change in the volume status.
• If the Recovery Manager auto-mount service fails to mount a snapshot when the server is not found in the management group, only one error message will be logged. • The CLI will no longer create managed snapshots when the volume name is entered incorrectly. 11.0 patches included in 11.5 Patch 40001 — Resolves issues that may lead to a software connection abort or a system discovery failure.
• If an online upgrade failed, the CMC issued a reboot for the storage system to stop the upgrade server process. • If the frame size entered is more than 1500, a hyperlink to a warning message is now displayed. LeftHand OS • Unassigning multiple FC volumes (10 or more) simultaneously could cause the storage system to become unresponsive. • For the 4330, fixed an issue with setting the controller cache ratio properly after the capacitor is fully charged and the controller cache is enabled.
NOTE: Patches 10136 and 10137, which contain a firmware update for the RAID controller on specific platforms, are automatically applied during the 11.5 upgrade. These patches are applied before the LeftHand OS software is upgraded and they require a reboot. Depending on the size of your configuration, the patch installation could take a few minutes to a few hours to complete. Plan the upgrade accordingly. HP recommends upgrading firmware before upgrading to Version 11.x.

Upgrades and Manager Quorum Alarms In HP StoreVirtual Storage Version 10.0, the notifications for optimum manager configuration in a management group move from the Best Practice Summary to Alarms. Therefore, when you upgrade to Version 10.0 or higher, you might receive alarms about any manager configurations that do not meet the recommended best practice.
1 When using Remote Copy with management groups running different versions of the LeftHand OS, the management group that is the destination for the remote copy must be running the later version. For example, a management group running version 10.5 can create a remote copy to a management group running 11.5. See the HP StoreVirtual Storage Upgrade Guide for more information.
Disallowed characters in the CMC credentials Forward slash (‘/’) Comma (' , ') Backward slash ('\') Semi-colon (';') Single-quote (' ' ') Additional characters disallowed in the CLI Equal sign (‘=’) Double quotes (‘ " ‘) • Output for the getgroupinfo command indicates an unlicensed feature When issuing the getgroupinfo command for a management group, you may see the following status information at the end of the output: STATUS value 32774 description Unlicensed This message indicates that the license ke
unavailable, email settings cannot be updated, and values in the performance dashboards are displayed as N/A. To resolve this issue, close the CMC and reopen it. • The CMC displays an error message when changing settings in a management group or storage system When performing any operation that modifies settings for a storage system or a management group in the CMC, the following message may display: Unable to get email settings because of CIM or management gateway issue Click OK to close the message.
HP StoreVirtual DSM for Microsoft MPIO Notifications and alerts • No alert is issued if DNS servers are unavailable This issue will be addressed in a future release. • SNMP clients and multi-byte characters SNMP clients must be configured to use UTF-8 encoding to properly display multi-byte characters.
• For a Fibre Channel volume, the Performance Monitor reports 0.0 for the first volume statistics when a second volume is created and mounted on the same server This happens because the path of first volume gets changed when the second volume is mounted, so the Performance Monitor displays 0.0 for the older path. To solve this issue, remove the older path and add the new path of the first volume to see the correct performance values.
• When splitting the P4800 G2 10 GbE NICS into a custom configuration for iSCSI and management, the TCP speed/duplex reports Unknown On P4800 G2 storage systems running the LeftHand OS versions listed in the table, if the Ethernet ports are configured with a speed other than the supported speeds listed, the network controller Speed/Method and Duplex/Method are reported as Unknown when viewed on the TCP Status tab of the storage system Network category.
• The CMC becomes unresponsive after stopping an online upgrade using F11 Under certain conditions, you may stop an active upgrade process by pressing F11. This action is only available when a discreet upgrade operation is taking an unexpectedly long period of time (approximately 5 minutes). Pressing F11 aborts the upgrade process, but it causes the CMC to be unresponsive. To resolve this issue, close and relaunch the CMC. • During the online upgrade from 10.5 to 11.
The storage system settings that may be retained after upgrading to Version 11.x include settings for the following features: • ◦ Alerts, including Alert emails ◦ SNMP general settings and traps ◦ Remote log files Upgrading the CMC using Online Upgrades on a 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.x server requires additional package installation To upgrade the CMC using Online Upgrades on a 64-bit RHEL 6.x server, install the following two packages from 32-bit RHEL 6.
To resolve this issue, ensure that all ports connected to StoreVirtual 4330 storage systems are part of a separate VLAN. • When deleting the ALB bond on a storage system that has been upgraded from 9.5 to 11.5, both NIC ports become disabled The ports lose the assigned IP addresses and the CMC cannot find the storage system.
• Running Register-SCStorageLogicalUnit on an array of LUNs causes the LUNs to be assigned to multiple storage groups A single LUN can belong to only one storage group. If the commandlet Register-SCStorageLogicalUnit is run on an array of LUNs, then the Get-SCStorageLogicalUnit on a particular volume will return an invalid configuration. To fix this issue, perform the following steps: 1. Unregister the volumes using the command Unregister_SCStorageLogicalUnit. 2.
Snapshots • An Active Directory user with read-only permissions can pass the Authentication Console credentials test, but application-managed snapshots will fail The Application Aware Snapshot Manager Authentication Console does not differentiate between read-only users and those who have authorization to create snapshots. The LeftHand OS will deny the Application Aware Snapshot Manager the right to create snapshots on behalf of a read-only user; therefore, snapshots are not taken.
To prevent this issue from occurring, do the following: 1. Identify all the volumes that are included in this recovery plan. For each of these volumes: a. Verify that the remote schedule is missing from the "new primary" group to the "new remote" group. If this remote schedule exists, continue with step 2. b. Find the paused remote schedule that is from the "old primary" group to the "old remote" group.
2. Select RdmFilter and clear the box RdmFilter.HbaIsShared. This allows local disks to be used as RDMs. 3. Click OK to save this change. 4. You may need to rescan the disks in order to see the RDMs. If so, on the same Configuration tab, select Storage in the Hardware section. Click Rescan All. 5. Select the VSA VM on the host and click Edit Settings. 6. For each Hard disk device listed as a Mapped Raw LUN, record the Physical LUN, which will look like the following: vml.
• Windows 2012 Event Viewer Event ID 4010 reports an unsupported configuration of the Hyper-V Linux Integration Services (LIS) in the StoreVirtual VSA 2014 You can ignore this warning message. This configuration has been thoroughly tested by HP Storage. This issue will be addressed in a future release.
