-f Runs in the foreground.
-D<string>
Generates debug messages. The <string> parameter contains a series of net-snmp debug enabled
strings delimited by ‘,’.
-I<interval>
The interval parameter indicates how often performance data will be logged to Active Health Service:
0 =
do not log any performance counters (default)
1 = log performance counters every minute
2 = log performance counters every 10 minutes
3 = log performance counters every hour
-P<interval>
The <interval> parameter specifies the number of seconds
between RFC 2741 (AgentX) PING requests:
0 = PING Request packets are not sent
15 = PING Request packets are sent every 15 seconds (default)
-L Does not open a log file; prints all messages to stderr.
Configuration options
Through the iLO 4 GUI, you can enable either HP Agentless Management or SNMP pass through. When HP SIM or similar external
management software discovers an HP ProLiant Gen8 server, it looks to see whether HP Agentless Management or SNMP pass
through is enabled. This setting determines where HP SIM gets management data.
You can choose what configuration is best for your environment:
HP Agentless Management (the recommended configuration)
SNMP pass through, for management environments requiring SNMP agents (not available when Agentless Management is in use)
HP Agentless Management and SNMP agents (not the recommended configuration)
Running HP Agentless Management
If you configure HP Agentless Management through the iLO 4 GUI, HP SIM or other Central Management Servers will receive SNMP
traps from the iLO BMC. Because of the advantages offered by HP Agentless Management, this is the preferred configuration. It
eliminates any potential for duplicate information from the managed server.
To manage an HP ProLiant Gen8 server that is using HP Agentless Management with HP SIM, your management server must use HP
SIM 7.0 or later. You also need to configure SNMP parameters (such as community strings and trap destinations) on the iLO 4 GUI
AdministrationManagement page so that HP SIM can send and receive information to the server. To configure SNMP, select
Management from the iLO 4 GUI Administration browser menu.
To configure SNMP parameters on the HP ProLiant Gen8 server, complete these steps. Figure 3 shows the Management screen and
the SNMP parameters that you need to configure.
1. Enable Agentless Management.
2. Enter a common Read Community string for HP SIM and the HP ProLiant Gen8 server.
3. Optionally, enter a common Trap Community string for HP SIM and the HP ProLiant Gen8 server.
4. Enter the HP SIM IP address or DNS name in the SNMP Alert Destination(s) field.
5. Enable all of the SNMP Alerts: iLO SNMP Alerts, Forward Insight Manager SNMP Alerts (if the SNMP agent is installed in the OS),
and Cold Start Trap Broadcast.
