Overview What is CloudSystem bursting? Public cloud bursting is a feature of HP CloudSystem Matrix that enables enterprises to provision public and private infrastructure resources seamlessly.

 A server type (flavor or instance type) can be explicitly chosen in the template or can be selected automatically by IO based on the server memory and CPU configuration. Allocation    CloudSystem uses an allocation policy to determine where to provision resources. Moving through the ordered list of server pools selected by the user, CloudSystem allocates resources from the first server pool that can accommodate the needs of all servers in a server group.

Configuring HP Cloud Services or Amazon EC2 for cloud bursting Create an account Create an account at HP Cloud Services or Amazon, or use an existing account. Security credentials associated with this account (access key, secret access key, and, for HPCS, tenant name) will be used by CloudSystem. Define key pairs An RSA key pair is required for SSH access to cloud servers.   The public key is stored at the cloud provider and is injected into the server images.

Configure capacity pools For each pool defined in nova-cloud-pools.xml, copy the sample properties file named sample-hpcspool.properties to .properties. The in the filename must match the value in nova-cloud-pools.xml.

Alternatively, if isolation is required or desired, it can be achieved by creating a separate HPCS cloud capacity pool with its own key pair for each organization or user. The server.flavor.auto.selection.order value is a comma-delimited list of names of the server types to consider during auto-selection. The first server type that matches the requirements of a logical server definition is used to provision the server.

Create image filters HP Cloud Services server images are displayed in the CloudSystem software inventory. You can choose from the collection of pre-existing publically available images and optional private images you create in your account. An image filter configuration determines which images are visible to CloudSystem. Edit (or use unchanged) the sample image filter file named hpcs-image-filters.xml.

Define capacity pools Edit the sample capacity pool definition file copied to ec2-cloud-pools.xml. Add elements to represent additional capacity pools as needed. A capacity pool definition appears as a Cloud Resource in the Matrix infrastructure orchestration Designer, Self Service Portal, and Console. Provisioning to an external cloud in Matrix infrastructure orchestration The following sections describe how to create a template and create a service to deploy to the HPCS or EC2 cloud. Launch infrastructure orchestration Designer To access HP Matrix infrastructure orchestration Designer using a browser, navigate to https://:51443/hpio/designer/ and log in. (Clicking New or Edit on the Templates tab in the infrastructure orchestration console also launches the Designer.

2. Right click the server group to configure it. a. Enter a name for the server group. Double-byte characters are allowed if you added the line provider.requires.ascii=true to the .properties file. b. Check “Require in Cloud.” This instructs IO to deploy the server group to an external cloud provider. If unchecked, the server group can be provisioned to an on-premise VM Host or to the cloud provider Savvis.

4. Select the Software tab, and select a cloud image from the filtered collection of pre-existing publicly available and (optional) private images. Note that the Source column is not displayed by default. Click the table icon on the right side of the screen, and check Source. This makes it easier to select software from a particular Cloud Resource, if desired. Public cloud images have different identifiers in each availability zone or region.

7. (Optional) Add private data disks by dragging virtual storage components and attaching them to the server group. Enter a name, and specify a disk size. Do not check Disk is Bootable. Note: Currently, private data disks are not supported for HPCS. 8. Right click the Network icon to configure it. Click the table icon on the right side of the screen and check Source.

Create a pool 1. Click the Servers tab. Create a pool containing cloud resources by clicking Create Pool. 2. On the Create Pool screen: a. b. c. Select a pool from the dropdown menu. Enter a new pool name. Select a Cloud Resource from the left table, and click the right arrow to move the resource to the new pool, then click Save. 3. Click Modify Users and assign users/groups to the new pool.

Create a new service using the template 1. Click the Templates tab. Select the template previously created and click Create Service. 2. On the Create Service screen: a. b. c. d. e. Click Options. Enter a service name. Enter a hostname completion string. Select the cloud pool in the Available Server Pools table. Click the right arrow to move the cloud pool to the Selected Server Pools table, and click Submit. In this example, Public -- HP Cloud Svcs is the only selected server pool.

Access the cloud server Access the cloud server using SSH. The administrator must have previously created one or more named key pairs in the cloud provider account. The administrator gives the key pair, including the actual keys, to users who are authorized to provision resources using the Cloud Resource.

Appendix: Provisioning to an Amazon VPC CloudSystem can provision instances to an Amazon VPC in a manner similar to EC2.    A VPC must be pre-provisioned, with subnets, gateways, and routing tables configured as necessary. (See Amazon Virtual Private Cloud FAQs.) A single cloud capacity pool can be used to provision to EC2 or to a specified VPC, but not both. A capacity pool can be targeted to a VPC instead of an EC2 region by setting, for example, provider.vpc.
