Enable cost-effective availability.
High system availability is now an imperative for an
increasing number of applications. If your business
depends on certain applications, it can’t tolerate
downtime for those applications. Yet in many cases
the use of high availability (HA) failover is restricted
to a limited number of business-critical applications in
complex, clustered configurations.
HP Insight Dynamics – VSE changes the ground rules
for HA. It introduces the concept of “everyday high
availability” for a wide range of applications. You can
now protect more of your systems and shrink mainte-
nance windows using spare capacity that is fast and
affordable to set up, using existing virtual machines
or physical servers.
During periods of unplanned downtime, you can use
Insight Dynamics – VSE to shift workloads to physical
servers or virtual machines at an alternate location
to enable higher availability for certain applications.
This is made possible by the use of logical servers that
can be easily created and freely moved across your
infrastructure. This is the same approach that is used
to enable an agile test and development environment.
It’s now being used to support a simple, everyday
HA environment.
In addition, HP Insight Dynamics – VSE enables higher
availability with the optional HP Insight Recovery
extension for disaster recovery. With a simple mouse
click, HP Insight Recovery transfers logical server-
based application environments, running either
directly on HP BladeSystem servers or in VMware
virtual machines, to a remote recovery site. It offers
a more cost-effective metro-distance recovery option
than existing clustering products.
Provision infrastructure consistently.
The logical server profiles of HP Insight Dynamics –
VSE allow more consistent server provisioning. In
addition, HP Insight Dynamics – VSE can be extended
with HP Insight Orchestration software to enable your
IT organization to provision infrastructure consistent-
ly and automatically from pools of shared resources
using a self-service portal. This extension allows you
to rapidly provision resources ranging from a single
virtual machine to complex multi-tier environments with
physical and virtual server and storage resources.

Insight Dynamics – VSE to incorporate standardized
approaches and tools for designing, provisioning,
and integrating IT infrastructure, including both phys-
ical and virtual resources. HP Insight Orchestration
covers the IT lifecycle, from the initial design of system
configurations to the ultimate repurposing of assets.
Along the way, HP Insight Orchestration eases the
burden on your IT administrators. It enables IT resource
requests to be handled in a systematic manner that
leverages standard configurations, self-service provi-
sioning tools, and automated approval processes. HP
Insight Orchestration also helps you accelerate the
process of provisioning right-sized computing and
storage systems to people who frequently request
resources, such as test and development specialists
and application owners.
