HP Logical Server Management Best Practices

P2000/MSA Disk Arrays
The HP P2000/MSA family of disk arrays includes Fibre Channel versions of MSA2000 G1 and G2 arrays (e.g.,
MSA2000fc and MSA2300fc) and P2000 G3 MSA arrays (e.g., P2000 G3 FC MSA and P2000 G3 FC/iSCSI
MSA Combo Controller) which are supported in the logical server environment. The P2000/MSA family is managed
through a command line interface or the Storage Management Utility (SMU), a Web-based interface. Reference
guides for the P2000/MSA, including SMU, are available online at the links below.

SMU is automatically populated with HBA port WWNs of hosts that are on the SAN fabric and have sent a
command to the array. The Virtual Connect WWNs for a logical sever may not have yet been applied to a specific
blade HBA (as the system administrator may be defining the logical servers or storage pool entries in advance of their
use). As a result, it is necessary to explicitly add the HBA WWNs to SMU.
The specifics of the graphical interface will vary with versions of the array and SMU, but the basic set of steps
remains consistent:
Add a host with the Virtual Connect WWNs for the logical server HBA ports; remember to follow the
naming convention of a general name not bound to the physical location of the host. The term used for the
P2000/MSA is the global host port list.
Create the required volume(s) (using size, redundancy, OS, and other information from the server
administrator)
Assign host access privileges to allow the host to access the appropriate volumes
Return the LUN and controller port WWN information to the server administrator
Figure 45 shows the Storage Management Utility interface to add a host. The Add Host capability is accessed via the
Provisioning menu, and the Host ID specified is the Virtual Connect WWN allocated by the logical server software.
An appropriate host name can be chosen (following the guidelines to associate with the workload versus the physical
server), and a Profile can be specified. This profile is comparable to the host mode for other arrays. Once the Add
Host button is pressed, the Exchange3 host will be visible in the Hosts tree in the left-hand pane.
