HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.0 software without OpenSSH on HP ProLiant and Integrity Servers Running Microsoft® Windows®
authentication verification checks. In addition, the vseassist command line interface on the central
management server when executed with the syntax
vseassist –l –n <system name> will report
failures for SSH port open and SSH authentication verification checks. These can be ignored providing the
HP Matrix Operating Environment functionality limitations are understood when OpenSSH is not installed.
Managed system configuration verification
HP Matrix Operating Environment provides a troubleshooting tool for diagnosing configuration issues directly
on managed systems. It can be found under the HP Systems Insight Manager menu Diagnose ->
Troubleshoot Matrix Operating Environment -> Check Managed Node Configuration... This
tool will not work because the SSH protocol is used to copy a troubleshooting utility to the managed system
and perform verifications directly on the managed system. In addition, the vseassist command line interface
on the central management server when executed with the syntax
vseassist –r –n <system
name> will not work when OpenSSH is not installed. To execute these checks manually, perform the
following actions:
1. Copy the file <MOE Install dir>\bin\vseassist.exe (Default install directory
is C:\Program Files\HP\Virtual Server Environment\) to the managed system in a
temporary location such as C:\temp.
2. On the managed system, open a command window and change to the directory where the file was
copied, such as C:\temp.
3. Execute vseassist –s –h <hostname of central management server>.
HP SIM communications
HP Systems Insight Manager offers a tool to configure and diagnose communication between the central
management server and managed systems. It can be found under HP Systems Insight Manager menu
Configure -> Manage Communications... This tool will report an inability to run tools on the managed
systems, which is expected when OpenSSH is not configured.
HP Integrity nPartition configuration
HP Matrix Operating Environment provides capabilities for managing nPartitions on supported HP Integrity
servers. Read-only access to HP Integrity servers does not require OpenSSH. When OpenSSH is not installed
on HP Integrity nPartition servers running Microsoft® Windows®, all configuration changes must be made by
directly communicating with the management processor in the nPartition server. Follow these steps to direct
the Partition Manager to communicate directly with the management processor and enable configuration
changes without relying upon OpenSSH:
1. Make sure IPMI over LAN is enabled on the management processor for the managed system.
2. Open Partition Manager by clicking on the Partition Manager icon in Virtualization Manager for an
nPartition system or nPartition complex.
3. Expand the Tools menu in the right-hand menu of Partition Manager.
4. Click on the Switch Complexes... link.
5. In the “A remote partitionable complex” section, enter the hostname or IP address of the nPartition’s
management processor, and the IPMI password.
6. Perform necessary management operations.
