HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.0 Release Notes

Restart is required if SPM loses connectivity to an XP storage array while it is attempting
to access the array
Using SPM to manage XP storage arrays requires the CMS to be connected to the FC SAN. If SPM
loses connectivity to the array while it is attempting to access the storage array, either to gather
information for the catalog or perform configuration operations, the SPM catalog might be in an
inconsistent state.
Suggested action
After FC connectivity has been reestablished between the CMS and the XP storage array, restart
the “HP SPM Storage Module J2EE Service and “HP SPM Storage Module Service Windows
services.
Importing a volume (LDEV) with exactly 256 presentation paths does not succeed
From an XP storage array, attempting to import a volume (LDEV) with exactly 256 presentation
paths does not succeed. This is caused by a known firmware defect.
Suggested action
Change the number of presentation paths to a number other than 256 and retry the import operation.
Improper host group deletion using an EVA multipathing configuration with SPM
In an EVA multipath configuration, it is possible to activate an SPM service that will present a
volume to a host with multiple initiators. If that service is later deactivated, SPM does not properly
delete the host group from the array. As a result, there may be unused host groups on the EVA
that are visible through the Command View console. In general, this should not cause any issues
with use of that array unless the maximum number of EVA host groups are consumed.
Suggested action
Clean up an unused host group (called “host alias for EVA arrays). From the Command View
console:
1. Verify the host alias that you need to clean up. (Note that unused host groups from SPM will
have no volumes presented to them.)
2. Launch Command View in a Browser and log in.
3. In the left panel, expand the array that has the unused host group.
4. In the left panel, expand the Hosts folder in the Command View Browser.
5. In the left panel, click the unused host alias in the list.
6. In the right panel, click the Presentation tab to verify that no disks are presented to this host
alias. (Do not delete a host alias with an active presentation.)
7. If this is the correct host alias, click the General tab in the right panel.
8. In the right panel, click the Delete host button.
9. In the popup window, click the OK button.
After the unused host groups are deleted, log into SPM and perform a re-synch operation on the
array. This will ensure consistency between the array status and the SPM catalog.
SPM may mark an array offline when a volume is deleted during on-demand provisioning
During on-demand provisioning, when a storage service is deactivated and the volume is deleted
on the array, an error may occur that causes SPM to incorrectly mark the array as offline in its
catalog. While the array is marked offline, SPM will not perform any provisioning or reconfiguration
operations on the array even though the array is functioning properly.
Suggested action 1
Wait approximately 60 minutes for SPM to automatically resynchronize and restore the array to
an online state in its catalog. After the array is online, provisioning and reconfiguration operations
can be performed.
