HP Modular Cooling System Generation 2 site preparation guide - Technical white paper

Space and positioning considerations
The HP MCS G2 is larger (and, when fully populated, heavier) than a standard 19-inch equipment
rack. Therefore, space required for maneuvering, operating, and servicing the HP MCS G2 is greater
than for standard-sized racks.
Delivery space requirements
It is important to ensure the facility has adequate space to receive and remove the HP MCS G2 unit
from the shipping skid. The following should be considered when unloading the HP MCS G2:
Forklifts should enter and transport the shipping pallet from the side.
Delivery plans should include the possible removal of walls or door.
A total length of approximately 5.8 meters (19 feet) should be allowed to safely remove the
HP MCS G2 unit from the shipping pallet down the provided ramps.
The packaged dimensions of the HP MCS G2 preconfigured with a single IT rack (including shock
pallet and cartons) are:
2,280 mm (89.8 inches) height x 1,219 mm (48 inches) width x 1,829 mm (72 inches) depth
Maneuvering space requirements
When maneuvering the HP MCS G2, please use the following guidelines:
Racks with casters should be moved with care. Sudden stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces
may cause the product to overturn.
Both the cooling unit and the IT rack have casters that are fixed at the front and swivel in the back
because of stability and safety concerns. Therefore it is easier to move the HP MCS G2 with the
back as the leading edge.
For long, straight runs, roll the HP MCS G2 with the front fixed casters leading. For maneuverability
while moving the HP MCS G2 into a tight spot, it is better to lead with the rear swiveling casters.
When rolling the HP MCS G2, make sure to push firmly on the front door frame and not the door
mesh of the IT rack. The points where to push the HP MCS G2 are marked by factory.
Make sure there is a room and door large enough to accommodate the movement of the HP MCS
G2 cabinet into the data center.
Be sure elevators have adequate load capacity, floor space, and door clearance to accommodate
the HP MCS G2 when transporting it to an upper or lower building floor. The MCS G2 pallet can
only be moved with forklifts from the side that has a length of 1,829 mm (72 inches).
Be sure that doorway thresholds are adequate to accommodate the HP MCS G2 when transporting
within a building. It is not recommended that the HP MCS G2 be lifted or transported by eyebolts
that could get caught in the upper corners of the cabinet.
Warning
To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment, do not
attempt to move equipment racks alone. Obtain adequate assistance to
stabilize the rack during movement, or hire professional equipment riggers.
