HP MPX200 Mutifunction Router Command Line Interface User Guide (5697-2512, May 2013)

Glossary
A
adapter The board that interfaces between the host system and the target devices. Adapter is synonymous
with host bus adapter (HBA), host adapter, and adapter board.
API Application Programming Interface. A specification intended to be used as an interface by software
components to communicate with each other.
array A storage system that contains multiple disk or tape drives. A disk array, for example, is
differentiated from a disk enclosure, in that the array has cache memory and advanced
functionality, like RAID and virtualization. Components of a typical disk array include disk array
controllers, cache memories, disk enclosures, and power supplies.
ASIC Application Specific Integrated Circuit. A microchip designed for special applications such as
Fibre Channel.
ATIO Accept Target I/O.
B
bandwidth A measure of the volume of data that can be transmitted at a specified transmission rate.
C
CDB Command Descriptor Block.
CHAP Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol. A protocol that defines a methodology for
authenticating initiators and targets.
CLI Command Line Interface. An interface or dialog between the user and a program, or between
two programs, where a line of text (a command line) is passed between the two.
CmdSN Command Sequence Number.
CRC Cyclic Redundancy Check. A type of check value designed to catch most transmission errors.
CSV Comma-Separated Value. A data file used for storage of data structured in a table form.
D
data migration The process of transferring data between storage types, formats, or computer systems. Data
migration is usually performed programmatically to achieve an automated migration, freeing up
human resources from tedious tasks. Migration is a necessary action for retaining the integrity of
the data and for allowing users to search, retrieve, and make use of data in the face of constantly
changing technology.
DCBX Data Center Bridging Exchange. A set of enhancements to Ethernet local area networks for use
in data center environments.
DDB Data Description Block.
device A target, typically a disk drive. Hardware such as a disk drive, tape drive, printer, or keyboard
that is installed in or connected to a system. In Fibre Channel, a target device.
DHCP Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.
DMA Direct Memory Access.
DML Data Management LUN.
driver The software that interfaces between the file system and a physical data storage device or network
media.
DSD Data Segment Descriptor.
