This document contains information about new product features that are not documented in the Getting

started poster or the User and service guide. It also contains updated operator control panel (OCP) menu

trees and ad d itional troubleshooting information.

Ultrium 920 SCSI tape drive support

The MSL2024 and MSL4048 SCSI Tape Libraries support the new Ultrium 920 LTO-3 h alf-height SCSI

tape drive.

• The MSL2024 can contain one or two Ultrium half-height tape drives or one Ultrium full-height

tape drive.

• TheMSL4048cancontainuptofourUltriumhalf-heighttapedrives,oneortwoUltriumfull-height

tape drives, or one Ultrium full-height drive with one or t wo Ultrium half-height drives.

You can mix Ultrium SCSI tape d rive models within the Tape Library.

When conﬁguring a T ape Library with one or more Ultrium 920 tape drives, follow the instructions

and cabling recommendations for c onﬁguring a Tape Library with Ultrium 960 LTO-3 full-height tape

drives. For best performance, the Ultrium 920 tape drive should be on its own Ultra 320 SCSI bus,

with no other devices attached.

SNMP support SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) allows applications such as HP Systems Insight Manager (http://www.hp.com/products/SystemInsightManager) to manage the Tape Library. The Library supports both SNMP configuration and SNMP tags. See the documentation for Insight Manager or your management application for information on how to use SNMP. The Tape Library uses the HP NetCitizen MIB, which is supported by HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM) and other applications.

Auto cleaning is disabled by default. You can enable automatic cleaning even if there are no cleaning cartridges in the device. In this case, the device will display a warning message. WARNING! Only enable automatic cleaning in either the backup application or the Tape Library, not both. To configure automatic cleaning with the RMI, check Auto Clean Enabled on the Configuration > System page, select the Auto Clean Enabled box as shown in Figure 2.

USB support The USB port on the back panel of the Tape Library is now active (see Figure 3). You can upgrade firmware from and download support tickets to a USB flash drive through the USB port. 11187 Figure 3 USB port Upgrading firmware The Tape Library allows two types of firmware to be upgraded — one for the tape drives and the other for the Tape Library itself. You can upgrade both types of firmware from a USB flash drive. Access to this feature requires the Administrator password.

To download a support ticket with the MSL2024 OCP: 1. Insert a USB flash drive into the USB port. 2. From the Home screen, press Previous or Next until the screen displays Support. Error code Description Troubleshooting steps 8D Sled (the part of the robotics assembly that moves the robot towards the front or back of the device) obstructed. • If this occurs the first time the Library is powered on after unpacking or moving, verify that the shipping lock is removed from the top of the unit and stored on the back of the product. If the product was shipped with tape cartridges in the magazines, the cartridges may have come out of the magazines and obstructed the robotics.
