You can connect a modem or ISDN terminal adapter to an asynchronous serial interface for dial-up
connection.
An asynchronous serial interface can operate in flow mode or protocol mode. In protocol mode, the
asynchronous serial interface supports PPP at the data link layer and IP at the network layer.
To configure an asynchronous serial interface:
Step Command Remarks
1. Enter system view.
system-view N/A
2. Enter asynchronous serial
interface view.
interface async interface-number
or
interface serial interface-number
N/A
3. Set the interface description.
description text
Optional.
By default, the description of an
asynchronous serial interface is
interface name Interface, for
example, Serial2/0 Interface.
4. Configure a synchronous or
asynchronous serial interface
to operate as an
asynchronous serial interface.
physical-mode async
By default, a synchronous or
asynchronous serial interface
operates as a synchronous serial
interface.
This command is not available on
AM interfaces.
Skip this step if the interface is an
Async interface.
