R2511-HP MSR Router Series Terminal Access Configuration Guide(V5)
89
Make sure that the FEPs and the specified source IP address of the attached router can reach each other.
VPN binding
The VPN binding feature enables IP terminal access to support VPNs. You can assign terminals
connected to the router to different VPNs. A terminal in a VPN can access FEPs or remote routers in the
same VPN.
AAA authentication
To enhance security of IP terminal access, the router provides AAA authentication to block illegal users.
Two authentication modes, password and scheme, are supported. In password mode, the user must
enter the correct password to pass authentication. In scheme mode, authentication is implemented by an
AAA authentication server, such as a RADIUS server.
Application backup
The application backup feature allows you to specify a primary FEP and multiple secondary FEPs on the
router. If the primary FEP fails, the router contacts a secondary FEP to ensure continuous service.
Special characters processing
To enable different terminals to recognize special characters (such as the carriage return character) sent
by the FEP, you can transform the new-line character CRLF (ASCII code 0d0a or 0d00) or the carriage
return character CR (ASCII code 0d) to a common form (CR or CRLF).
Link detection
This feature enables the router to quickly detect a link failure to a terminal or to a FEP and release
corresponding network resources.
TCP buffers
The router has two TCP buffers. One is for storing data exchanged with FEPs, and the other is for storing
data exchanged with terminals. Each buffer has two configurable parameters: receive buffer size and
send buffer size.
Filtering of flow-control character string
The router forwards flow control character strings received from terminals to an FEP. If the FEP receives a
packet that contains flow control characters 0x13, which enables flow control, and 0x11, which disables
flow control, the FEP enables flow control but does not disable it. As a result, the FEP stops sending data
to the corresponding terminal, and the display pauses until you disable flow control by pressing the
shortcut key. To prevent the flow control error, configure this feature on the router to filter flow control
characters out of the data received from terminals.
Screen saving
With the screen saving feature, when an IP terminal is locked manually or because of timeout, the current
operation interface on the terminal is saved and will be displayed after the terminal is unlocked.
Terminal screen display size
The terminal screen display size determines the maximum lines and columns of characters that the screen
can display. By default, a terminal screen can display up to 24 lines and up to 80 characters in a single
line. You can set the terminal screen display size to meet different service requirements.
IP terminal access specifications
The following sections describe IP terminal access specifications for the initiator and receiver.
