As shown in Figure 11, a PPPoE session is established between each host (PPPoE client) and the
carrier router (PPPoE server). The service provider assigns an account to each host for billing and
control. The host must be installed with PPPoE client software.

PPPoE client
PPPoE is widely used in ADSL environments. Typically, to connect to the Internet through an ADSL network,
a host must be installed with PPPoE client software. The device provides PPPoE client functionality that
eliminates the need to install PPPoE client software on hosts to connect to the Internet. In addition, all hosts
on the same LAN can share one ADSL account.

As shown in Figure 12, hosts in an Ethernet are connected to Router (PPPoE client). Internet access data
from the hosts first reaches Router, where the data is encapsulated by PPPoE. Then, the data goes through
the ADSL modem to the ADSL server (PPPoE server) and finally to the Internet. The whole process is
achieved without PPPoE client software installed on hosts.
