Configuring ISDN B channel local management
Configured with the isdn bch-local-manage command, the device operates in B-channel local
management mode to select available B channels for calls. However, the connected PBX has higher
priority in B channel selection. If the B channel locally selected for a call is different from that indicated
by the PBX, the one indicated by the PBX is used for communication.
Configured with the isdn bch-local-manage exclusive command, the device operates in exclusive
B-channel local management mode. In this mode, the B channel locally selected must be used for
communication. In the Channel ID information element of the call setup message sent for a call, the
device indicates that the B channel is mandatory and unchangeable. If the connected PBX indicates a B
channel different from the locally selected one, the call fails.
It is very important to put appropriate control over B channels used for calls in process, especially in PRI
mode. Proper channel management can improve call efficiency and reduce call loss. HP recommends
that you use the management function provided by the PBX in most cases, even though the device
provides the B channel management function.
