display system internal ethernet character
Use display system internal ethernet character to display the statistics and details of characteristics
monitored by the Ethernet module.
Syntax

Parameters
global: Displays the global Ethernet characteristics. The global Ethernet characteristics match all packets
on a device.
interface interface-type interface-number: Specifies an interface by its type and number.
slot slot-number: Specifies the slot that houses the card by its number. (MSR4000.)
Usage guidelines
The Ethernet module receives, decapsulates, sends, and encapsulates link layer packets. When an
upper-layer application module (for example, STP or LLDP) needs to monitor and process protocol
packets, the module performs the following operations:
• Specifies the monitoring scope (for example, packets on the specified interface or all packets on the
device).
• Specifies the characteristics (for example, the specified Ethernet protocol type and the specified
MAC) of the protocol packets to be monitored.
• Applies the characteristics to the Ethernet module.
The Ethernet module can match packets against the registered characteristics base during the specified
phase (for example, RCV-MAC phase, RCV-LLC phase, and SND-L3IF phase). Packets matching the
characteristics are processed by the current phase. Packets not matching the characteristics are
processed by the next phase.
display system internal ethernet controlblock
Use display system internal ethernet controlblock to display the control block information of an interface,
including the link layer parameter values.
Syntax
MSR2000/MSR3000:
display system internal ethernet controlblock interface { interface-type interface-number }
MSR4000:
