HP DC SAN Backbone Director Switch Hardware Reference Guide (5697-2158, August 2012)

NOTE: The LEDs can take up to two minutes after WWN card installation to begin functioning.
7. Pack the faulty WWN card in the packaging provided with the new card and return it to the
DC SAN Director supplier.
Replacing SFPs, SFP+s, mSFPs, and XFPs
NOTE: The 8-Gb/s mSFPs and SFP+s autonegotiate at 2, 4, and 8 Gb/s. The 4-Gb/s SFPs
autonegotiate at 1, 2, and 4 Gb/s.
The XFP transceivers are used only with the FC10-6 port card. They should not be used in any 1
GE port.
To remove an SFP, SFP+, or XFP (FC10-6 blade only) transceiver, pull the bail down and out,
sliding the transceiver out of the Director blade.
To install an SFP, SFP+, or XFP tranceiver, position it so that the key is oriented correctly to the
port, and then insert the transceiver into the port until it is firmly seated and the latching mechanism
clicks. Transceivers are keyed so that they can only be inserted with the correct orientation. If the
transceiver does not slide in easily, ensure that it is correctly oriented.
The DC SAN Director comes with an optical transceiver extraction tool (see Figure 41 (page 81)).
The extraction tool is designed to remove SFP and XFP transceivers from blades where the space
is limited. To use the extraction tool, slide the tool on to the bail of the transceiver and pull it out.

Removing and replacing an mSFP optical transceiver
NOTE: Do not insert mSFP optical transceivers into ports intended for SFP or SFP+ transceivers.
They will be faulted on power-up for Fabric OS 6.4.0 and later.
To replace an mSFP optical transceiver, complete the following steps. HP recommends that the
optical cable should be either removed from or inserted into the mSFP while the transceiver is out
of the switch or blade.
Removing an mSFP optical transceiver
CAUTION: The pull tabs are not designed to be bent. Doing so may result in damage to the pull
tab.
NOTE: Use the mSFP optical transceivers only with the FC8-64 port blade. Narrower OM-3 LC
cables are used to connect the FC8-64. See Table 4 (page 15) for cable descriptions and part
numbers.
1. Grasp the pull tab firmly and pull the unit out of the port (Figure 42 (page 82)).
2. Remove the cable from the transceiver.
