Describes how to upgrade 3Com ExecutiveAssistant Firmware
Updating 3Com ExecutiveAssistant
Chapter I. Overview
In general, it is best to update the server and all clients so they are all using the
same version of ExecutiveAssistant. There are two different methods for updating
(1) Full Over-Install and (2) Express Update.
Full Over-Install
The “Full Over-Install” is the best and safest method for updating
ExecutiveAssistant on the server. The “Full Over-Install” defers from the “Express
Update” in a number of ways but primarily in that it will update the databases
ExecutiveAssistant uses with any necessary updates and re-install any files that
should happen to be missing (if there are any missing files).
DO NOT uninstall ExecutiveAssistant before over-installing. You should never
need to uninstall ExecutiveAssistant unless explicitly directed to do so by a support
engineer. Uninstalling ExecutiveAssistant will have no effect on licensing or
configuration because ExecutiveAssistant is designed to protect these items and
keep them intact from accidental removal of the software. The “Full Over-Install”
files usually consist of about 21 files and total approximately 90MB in size.
The “Full Over-Install” can also be used to update clients. Please Note: Clients
and servers do not use the same “Full Over-Install” files. The clients use the “Full
Over-Install” files located in the ClientSetup folder located on the server. The
ClientSetup folder is created after installing ExecutiveAssistant on the server and
the files will be updated when the server is updated using the “Full Over-Install”
method.
Express Update
The “Express Update” method is a quick method that can almost always be used
to update clients. The “Express Update” should only be used to update the server
when directed to do so by a support engineer.
DO NOT uninstall ExecutiveAssistant before applying an “Express Update”. You
should never need to uninstall ExecutiveAssistant unless explicitly directed to do
so by a support engineer. Uninstalling ExecutiveAssistant will have no effect on
licensing or configuration because ExecutiveAssistant is designed to protect these
items and keep them intact from accidental removal of the software. The “Express
Update” is usually a zip file with compressed files. The zip file is approximately
5MB in size.
Chapter II. Full Over-Install (server)
The “Full Over-Install” files usually consist of about 21 files and total approximately
90MB in size. It is recommended to save the setup files to the local hard drive of
the server to increase the speed of the over-install. A convenient location to store
the files is in C:\Program Files\3Com.
