getting started Guide for ExecutiveAssistant
3Com ExecutiveAssistant Getting Started Guide 5
SERVER, NBX, AND NETWORK
CONFIGURATION REQUIREMENTS
• The 3Com ExecutiveAssistant should be plugged into the exact same switch as
the 3Com phone system to minimize network related delays or other issues. For
the system to function properly, nothing can be in the network that blocks, delays,
re-orders or otherwise impedes the communications between the 3Com
ExecutiveAssistant and the 3Com phone system. Never plug the server running
ExecutiveAssistant into a telephone or hub – always plug it directly into the same
switch as the NBX.
• Accessing the ExecutiveAssistant server using Terminal Services, Remote
Desktop, or other applications that use Terminal Services cannot be utilized as
they can disrupt the Wav phone drivers.
• Disable the Windows Sound Scheme on the ExecutiveAssistant server. By
disabling the sound scheme, it will help prevent Windows and other applications
from accidentally using the WAV phones as Windows audio devices, therefore
reducing the risk of a conflict.
• Caller ID for calls that are setup for inbound recording, on-demand inbound
recording, and Malicious Call Notification will display on the LCD display of the
telephone. Both the Caller ID number and name display on the first line of the
LCD display. For the Caller ID to appear, all of the extensions must be listed in
the TSP on the ExecutiveAssistant.
• ExecutiveAssistant uses full TAPI/WAV for all inbound recording functionality.
Therefore, all inbound recordings are point-to-point (no multicast) and there is no
need to de-encrypt any packets (so conversations remain secure from
unauthorized packet sniffers and other spyware intrusions). Specifically, there is
no need to purchase the “3Com Call Record and Monitor License” because that is
simply a license to de-scramble the audio going through the LAN – the
ExecutiveAssistant does not use that approach, and allows you to keep the
conversation secure over the LAN.
• Make sure that you have disabled all real-time software from running on the
ExecutiveAssistant server. This includes anti-virus (you can do a night-time scan,
but not real-time scanning), anti-spyware and Windows firewall (disabled using
Windows Security in the Control Panel).
