Testing Your Network
The Net Tools tab of the System Info dialog enables you to perform
various operations to test your network and discover IP addresses or
hostnames.
The basic procedure is to select the tool you want to use, specify any
required settings, specify the host (hostname or IP address) to which
it is to apply, then click the
Start Process button. The result of the
test will be logged and displayed in the central window. You can
stop the process at any time by clicking the
Stop Process button
(which replaces the
Start Process button). The contents of the log
can be cleared by clicking the
Clear Log button. Note that the options
available in the dialog depend on the tool selected.
The Ping Tool The Ping tool will cause an icmp request to be sent to the machine
specified by
Target Host. Checking the Display address numerically
option will cause the actual IP address to be displayed when you
enter a hostname in the
Target Host field.
