7.6.1.3 Adapter Settings
Within the field Adapter Settings
you choose the network adapter which you use with THINTUNE. Normally
this will be the standard 10/100 Mbit/s connector, so that there is no need to change anything. However,
should you operate a THINTUNE with optional extension cards, as there are for instance a token ring-,
ISDN-adapter or a wireless card, this parameter will already be preset in the factory.

The necessity to modify certain parameters within the field
Adapter only exists if you want to insert additional adapters,
respectively if you want to remove for example token ring cards or
other adapters from the THINTUNE.
Internal If the adapter-button within your THINTUNE is set to Internal
, you will
work with the integrated 10/100 Mbit/s connector of THINTUNE. With
the Link Type menu you might operate a network connection at a fixed
speed. This should be used in very specific environments only.
Wireless This adapter is to be chosen if you work with a wireless-card in
THINTUNE! By choosing Wireless
the adequate driver software, which
is part of the standard delivery of THINTUNE, is activated . All further
options for configuration concerning this adapter will be indicated on
the register sheets appearing in the lower part of this menu. THINTUNE
currently supports wireless adapters from Avaya (Lucent), 1
st
WAVE
and Symbol (Spectrum 24 HR, TYP LA 4111).
Operation Mode This option lets you define if the wireless network is operated with an
AccessPoint or as a Peer-to-Peer network.
Station Name Defines the network name of THINTUNE in a wireless network
Network Name This defines the name of the wireless network in which THINTUNE is
supposed to log into. With the network name ANY THINTUNE tries to
log into any wireless network that currently is available regardless
which name is assigned to this network. Be notified that the
AccessPoint of a wireless network needs to broadcast the network
name if you want to log into a wireless network with THINTUNE. Lots
of AccessPoints lets you disable this function (Hide Network Name).
With this function disabled THINTUNE will not be able to access a
wireless network.
Data Encryption Keys This lets you choose between different keys. These keys need to be
entered by the administrator in hexadecimal notation, each key 5 Byte
long. Please take care to also enter “0x” at any time. This is not part
of the key but is to specify hexadecimal notation. You can use one key
at a time only!
Token Ring This adapter is to be chosen if you work with a token ring card in
THINTUNE! THINTUNE currently supports Madge MK II or IBM ISA
adapters. Additionally THINTUNE lets you choose at which speed you
want to operate the adapter.
