Chapter 6 Disk Drive Firmware Revision

Method 1 - Flexible Diskette Update

1. Download the HP SCSI Hard Disk Drive Firmware Update Tool package

(Uthdd.exe)

2. Insert a formatted flexible diskette and double click on the HP SCSI Hard Disk

Drive Firmware Update Tool package to create a bootable flexible diskette that

contains the HP SCSI Hard Disk Drive Firmware Update Tool

3. Download the Catalog File for HP Server SCSI Hard Disk Drives from the HP

website and extract to the flexible diskette that was created above.

4. Download the Hard Disk Drive firmware for your hard drive and extract (if

needed) to the flexible diskette created above.

5. Boot the system with the flexible diskette created above and follow the on-

screen instructions to update the hard disk drive firmware.

Method 2 - CD Update

1. Download the Hard Disk Drive Firmware Update CD Image for HP Server

SCSI Hard Disk Drives package.

2. Decompress the .iso file and then use CD creation software to create a CD.

3. Boot to the CD and follow on-screen instructions to complete the update. ..

WARNING There should be no other disk activity when making a

firmware upgrade. Make sure that the activity lights on the

drives indicate no I/O activity before you do a firmware

update on the drives.

CAUTION Be sure to turn off Background Consistency Checking before

upgrading any drives This is discussed in Chapter 9‚ “Drive

firmware download process can cause drives to go offline” on

page 44.
