Agents
In general, every agent monitors a specific entity. Microsoft provides an agent that
monitors the data specified in SNMP standards documents. This information
includes network performance and configuration data. Almost every other agent
monitors some piece of proprietary data.
Agents, OEM
The HP Server agents include a number of OEM-provided agents that add
instrumentation and monitoring for the storage subsystem.
Agents, SCSI Detail
The SCSI detail agent is a SNMP extension agent that monitors details about SCSI
devices connected to the HP Server. Instrumentation provided includes: drive
product and firmware information, serial number, OS volume, RAID participation,
and access to log page 32h inscribing. This agent wakes up periodically to rescan the
SCSI busses on the system for new or relocated drives. Once a night the agent writes
configuration information to each drive on log page 32h, which is collected when
drives are returned to the factory. This agent uses pass-through commands to
discover and communicate with physical devices configured as part of a RAID set.
Agents, Server
HP Server agents provide monitoring and instrumentation of the HP Server.
Toptools uses instrumentation to render configuration and status information about
the HP Server. Some agents run periodically, monitoring a particular subsystem (e.g.
volumes), while most do their work on demand (when requested by Toptools). Most
HP Server Agents components are SNMP extension agents, while some are system
services (that do not provide SNMP instrumentation).
Basic Disk
A raw (empty) disk that has a partition table and signature on it. All NOSs prior to
Windows 2000 are basic. In Windows 2000, basic disks are not suitable for software
RAID sets.
Channel
The same as a SCSI bus.
