HP NetRAID-4M Release 4 Software Update Sheet
Situation
A new release of NetRAID-4M software, Release 4, is now available for download from the driver download section
of the HP website at:
www.hp.com
This release is also available on the NetRAID Software Library CD, included with the NetRAID-4M accessory kit
(D9161A, D9351A). The steps documented below should be followed to get started with the successful installation or
update of NetRAID-4M Release 4 software.
Getting Started
In addition to this document, two other documents will be needed to assist with the installation/update of the HP
NetRAID-4M controller:
 HP NetRAID-4M Installation Guide – A hard copy version of this manual is included with all NetRAID-4M
accessory kits, and it can be downloaded from the technical support section of the HP website at
www.hp.com

 HP NetRAID-4M Configuration and Upgrade Guide (Release 4) -- A hard copy version of this manual is
included with all NetRAID-4M accessory kits, and it can be downloaded from the technical support section
of the HP website at www.hp.com

Note The intended audience of the instructions below are users who are performing a new installation of
the NetRAID-4M with Release 4 software. If you are peforming a software upgrade, not a new
installation, please follow the instructions from Chapter 4 of the HP NetRAID-4M Configuration
Guide (Release 4) for details on how to check which versions of software are installed and perform
an update, if needed. Do not follow the steps below.
1. All NetRAID-4M controllers that are installed in the same HP server should be updated to the Release 4
firmware to insure proper operation. If you are installing the NetRAID-4M into an HP server that contains
previously installed NetRAID-4M’s, all must be flashed with Release 4 firmware and the NetRAID-4M driver
and utility must be updated to release 4. Please see Chapter 4 of the HP NetRAID-4M Configuration and
Upgrade Guide (Release 4) for details on how to check which software versions are installed and how to update,
if necessary.
2. HP server BIOS, hard disk drive firmware, and RS/12 firmware should all be at the most current versions to
ensure proper operation of a NetRAID-4M controlled mass storage subsystem. Please see Chapters 5-7 of the
HP NetRAID-4M Configuration and Upgrade Guide (Release 4) for details on how to check which
BIOS/firmware versions are installed and how to upgrade if necessary.
3. Install the NetRAID-4M hardware into your HP server using the steps from Chapter 2 of the HP NetRAID-4M
Installation Guide. During the first boot-up of the system with the NetRAID-4M installed, check the display for
the firmware build number when the NetRAID-4M information appears. If the build number is not 4628 than the
firmware needs to be updated to release 4. The Release 4 firmware can be downloaded from the HP NetRAID
Software Library CD or from the HP website. Detailed instructions on updating the firmware are located in
Chapter 4 of the HP NetRAID-4M Configuration and Upgrade Guide (Release 4)
