Chapter 9 Issues and Problem Resolution
Problem: If a drive (e.g., drive 0:15:0) was assigned as a failover drive for a
container (e.g., container 01) and then a second drive (e.g., drive 0:10:0) was
assigned as a second failover drive for the same container, the second failover drive
appears at the top of the assigned failover drives list. The assumption is that the first
assigned drive should be the first on the list.
Workaround: No action required. The table of assigned failover drives shows the
drives that are part of the available free space. It just happens that the drives assigned
last are added to the top of the list.
27 Order in which failover drives are used
Problem: Using the example in the previous concern, when a drive is removed from
container #01, the rebuild then starts but instead of using drive 0:15:0 (the first
assigned failover drive), it uses 0:10:0 (the last assigned failover drive).
Workaround: No action required. It just happens that drive 0:10:0 is the first on the
list of drives available with sufficient free space to failover to. The time of assigning
the failover drive is not reflected in this window.
28 Flashing the hard disk firmware
Problem: When flashing the firmware on a certain model of disk drive, on rare
occasions, the flash process will abort with a timeout error message.
Workaround: Repeat the flash procedure and it should be successful the second
time.
29 Disk drive hangs
Problem: NetRAID cards are incompatible with some older revisions of drive
firmware. This could lead to unstable system performance.
Resolution: Update your disk drive firmware to the correct revisions using the
method stated in Chapter 6‚ Disk Drive Firmware Revision.
30 Foreign containers are not being exposed during “Controller Rescan”
Problem: When drives from a different system, with existing containers, are added
to another system, the OS does not recognize them. This occurs in the following
situations:
• When foreign drives with containers are imported to the system.
