Chapter 9 Issues and Problem Resolution
Case 2: Under the Device Manager, even after specifying the A: drive, selecting the
update driver option and allowing the utility to search for a driver will always pull
the inf information from the c: drive that is already installed. We do not have the
CAT file yet for the new release of the 4M Windows 2000 driver, and that is why
the Microsoft OS cannot see the driver on the floppy disk. It will go to Microsoft's
own driver database to pick the one that has the CAT file, in this case, the one on the
local hard disk that was copied by the OS CD during OS installation. You have to
use “List …” and “Have Disk” instead of “Search …” to pick the right driver.
Workaround Case 1: This workaround consist of changing the default properties
of the folder options. Go into the “folder options” under “tools” of the My Computer
icon on your desktop. Then click on the second tab marked “view” and uncheck the
box marked “hide file extensions for known file types”.
Workaround Case 2: Go to Device Manager under the Computer Management
application. Open the SCSI and RAID controllers pull down. Right click on HP
NetRAID-4M Controller, then left click “Properties”. Click over to the second tab
named “Driver”, at the bottom right of the window will be the “Update Driver…”
button. Select this button to activate the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard. Select
“Next”, then select the “Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I
can choose a specific driver” button. Select “Next”, then select the “Have Disk…”
button, and use the field to point it directly to the A: Drive or the location of your
driver.
55 Free space and file system extension
General Description: When trying to convert a Windows 2000 basic disk to a
dynamic disk, you are unable to use the “volume set extension using dynamic disk”
feature when trying to expand the RAID.
A common issue is that you have a volume C: that is running out of space. (Almost
all applications are written by default for installation on the C: drive.) Since this
volume is running out of space, you would like to plug in an additional disk drive,
making the same volume bigger, and do it without having to reboot the server. In
Windows 2000, this feature is known as “volume set extension using dynamic disk.”
Investigation has uncovered three issues.
1. There are differences in the tool sets provided with the NetRAID-3Si and the
NetRAID-4M.
2. Some of the functionality in the Windows NT 4.0 tool set is not available with
Windows 2000.
3. Some Windows 2000 tools have errors.
